  1. I really like that!!!!!!!!!! Its safer than one handing an 020 for logging small stuff. (obviously I would never be so stupid as to do that:sneaky2:)
  2. Here you go An American tourist was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The tourist complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, "Only a little while." The tourist then asked, "Why didn't you stay out longer and catch more fish?" The Mexican said, "With this I have more than enough to support my family's needs." The tourist then asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?" The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life." The tourist scoffed, " I can help you. You should spend more time fishing; and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat: With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats. Eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor; eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You could leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then Los Angeles and eventually New York where you could run your ever-expanding enterprise." The Mexican fisherman asked, "But, how long will this all take?" The tourist replied, "15 to 20 years." "But what then?" asked the Mexican. The tourist laughed and said, "That's the best part. When the time is right you would sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions." "Millions?...Then what?" The American said, "Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos."
  3. Thats simply not true!! My father is a joiner and has been for most of his life, he does not employ any one, he will get in a labourer as and when he needs a hand, he has always worked this way. He does no advertising (and never has) and has never been short of work. Some people have ambitions to build some kind of empire and grow their business to this end. Some people are just happy to run a small steady outfit that provides them with enough income for the lifestyle they choose. I think more Co fail when trying to grow, than fail just saying as they are. So to suggest that not growing means failure is utter nonsense!!
  4. I agree, the point was made early on and did not need repeating.
  5. I think pictures always produce a greater response.
  6. How does this possibly affect you???????
  7. So you don't think most cyclists are also car owners paying tax?? Do you think bike tyres cause much wear to roads??
  8. Don't do that, we have made mistakes and you have now corrected yours, so don't worry about it
  9. I guess they would argue that you may have a large estate with private roads of your own where you can do what speed you wish.
  10. Come on!!!!!!!!!!Please don't say he takes payment for it!!!!!!!!!!from a charity, thats trying to find a cure for something that affects us all!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. OK, I think we're getting to the truth now, you equate size with professionalism. I don't, I would sooner deal with a smaller outfit where my custom really counts.
  12. At one time one of the Cancer Charity's would come and collect Yew cuttings for drug production, it may not still be the case, maybe others will chip in and let us know.
  13. I disagree. When people work at heights and with machinery its not aways possible, in fact some may say to do so would be unprofessional. I agree that their should be a suitable way for people to log their inquiry and that inquiry should be responded to within a reasonable time frame, but I don't think it needs to be answered by a person.
  14. Not true. Woolworth tried moving with the times and got into a new business model that involved selling the property off and renting it back. It was this new innovation that caused their down fall, if they had stuck to the old tried and tested model maybe they would still be trading.
  15. Is answering the phone a sign of professionalism?? Did they have an answer phone?? Just leave a message and they will get back to you. The logs being dry would be my test of their professionalism. PS, is ring other firms under false pretense very professional??
  16. Whats on your cert?? I did mine in 1996 and that was NPTC back then, is your even older??
  17. I think a large percentage of log suppliers do it as a side line, thats one of the main problems, they are just making a little extra cash, so tend to be very cheap.
  18. Rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His posts are just common sense IMO. Why do people have such an issue with this vid??????????? Were they pretty pathetic at getting the tree down?? Yes!! Did they get it done?? Yes!! Was anyone hurt?? No!! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM????????????????:confused1:
  19. I run an 18" bar on mine, it cuts really well
  20. As Andy say, most of the gardeners I know do mostly hard landscaping through the winter. The last two winters they have also been gritting paths/carparks and clearing snow.
  21. Totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!! People are always taking about fixing their own saws, chippers, trucks, etc. But moan like hell when tree owners do their own trees.
  22. Me too!!! I've just built a large above ground pool, it holds around 55000L of water and has a powerful pump, I'm thinking of getting a large bore hose that I could quickly fit to the pump. I reckon that could have a fire out before the FB have even got their boots on.
  23. The fire brigade terrify me, you only need to watch the old 999 series to see how little idea they have about anything they have not done a course for. And they seem to lack common sense and initiative. When I first started felling for my own firewood (20 years ago) I used to tell the wife that if she came out and found me under a tree don't ring the fire service, ring the farmer.
