  1. Thanks guys for your advice. Do you write them a quote on the spot or send one later when you have looked at the job? i feel pressured when i have to make a decesion there and then, i like to mill the job over in my mind.I find it hard to think on my feet with a client hanging over me.
  2. Can anyone shed some ideas or some light on how to write out written contracts for tree jobs. After you have quoted a job and you get it what do you do next? Do you have a written contract, or do you have a verbal agreement. What do you have in it if you have one? Its just that i have done a job and i feel (hypertheticaly) if i didnt get paid for it or more work was added and was not quoted for , this would make life very diffcult and confusing for me and the client. Is it a good idea to have the job quoted wriiten out so there can be no question of what the job spec is and no confusion between the two parties.
  3. looks like tufted brittle head Psathyrella multipedata. this is found on urban lomay clay soils. are the stems hollow?
  4. took the words straight out of my mouth treesurfer! We got to let the public know that we do more than cut trees down. I dont know wether i can call my self an arborist or a tree surgeon yet, as i have only just recently started in this game (and part time too)..2 months to be excat. maybe after a year or two i will feel comftable with calling my self one.
  5. Most definetly an arborist, theres more to tree work than climbing as we all know. we do more than climb, advise, plant, care for ecte. i wonder if the exppression tree surgeon is right sometimes? the amount of times your asked what an arborist is?
  6. Nice piccies. good on her for trying something new, more so if she freaks out because of a fear of heights.well done to her. My partner has seen me climb , thats enough for her..just to watch me do it:ohmy: taken my 13yr old daughter..she loved it.
  7.:lol:nearly fell off my stool reading that!!
  8. Thanks for finding this one..best ive seen and simple to follow.
  9. ever thought about wearing those arm protectors. Hope it gets better soon burr.
  10. so your a bit cold and stony then lee?
  11. I see what you mean, but if your like me and not climbing every day i need to keep my self in shape for when i do. Nothing wrong in doing a little more anyway i think. pete..i coundt posiabaly put such a long setence in a poll:001_tongue:
  12. Just wondered how many of you go to a gym to increase your upper and lower body strength as an aid to climbing. I do once a week to get my upper body stronger and my thighs stronger for spiking.
  13. i did a sycamore last month, the client hadnt noticed that from the back it was riddled with white rot right up the trunk and into the main scaffold branches. It amazes me how pepole can see yet dont see!
  14. :001_smile:It was a great year. I loved the theroy and the practical. Bit hard at times, stydying writing assignments and holding two jobs!! In that respect im glad its over. made some great friends and learnt loads about trees which has given me a good grounding in the Arb job. Its only when you get out into the big arb world when you realise you need to learn more and have only just skimmed the surface all year. learning bussiness managment at the time was boring..butbeleive me you do need it. I loved tree biology. Climbing for the first time is scary but you get used to it... good luck with yours..were you doing it?
  15. You need to take your sunglasses off:001_tongue: Andy
  16. Ditto...couldnt agree more. If you care about trees and it shows i think the client is more inclined to give you the job.
  17. Were not lopping it in half thou bil just a small reduction on the ends to releive the end weight for when the centeral stem is removed to stop the lever arm effect. I dont climb with spikes unless on a TD.
  18. Hi bald monkey I was in your shoes this time last year. Did NA arb 3 days a week , got my cs30-31. Now trying to set up a bussiness. Its tough out there , in Suffolk were i am were saturated with tree firms, but stick at it , theres always light at the end of the tunnel. C
  19. sorry did not mean to sound thick...i knew they were not UK trees over here, just did not put it very well. Nice to see trees on here that are not UK trees, growing in this country...hows that.
  20. Nice old ladies. Nice to see piccies of non native UK trees on here.
  21. Good idea..we were not aware of that. We were rigging branches down from that trunk. There was quite a lot of rot above our anchor point too Rupe. Client wants the centeral stem down anyway because of the rot and the tear out.
  22. we did go round the ladybower resevior and looked up at the hills..nice. Even better when theres a pub waiting for you at the end. Lucky to live there Gregsie.
  23. Well as promised heres the poplar job i asked about a week ago ,we did it yesterday.Or should i say half of it! Are lack of experince slowed us down as we were both a bit nervous of climbing a pop..especialy one with rot. We both have never climbed a tree with rot this was our first and we were brickin it:sad: Got to go back next friday and finish it. We will put this job down to expeince both climbing and pricing jobs.
  24. Im intrested , but depends where and when..will decide when i know where and when...great idea thou.
