  1. The D22 Navaras that went up to 2005 i think were the ones with engine problems. Much better work horse than the newer D40s. The D40s from 2005-6 onwards have a few problems too mainly cutch based. Upto 56 plate some 07 had euro 3 engines which are much better at fuel enconomy. The 07 onwards have euro 4 engines which aren't so good on the fuel. I think the 08 plates onwards were a bit better on fuel. Its a bit of a mine field but from 07 onwards the engine will be ok. Might need a new clutch though.
  2. I'll post a few pics. Sad news that there was a mid air collision today between a Douglas Skyraider and a P51 Mustang. It seems no one was hurt but the Mustang pilot bailed out and the sky raider landed with half a wing missing covered in more oil than usual.
  3. Hi Did anybody go to the Duxford Flying Legends today? It was fantastic and i'm going back tomorrow. Took over 2000 photos today! If anybody is interested i shall post some up after a good sort out.
  4. I have a Bandit 150xp PTO chipper. Fantastic either hand or crane fed. The 250 is the same model but has a 6' wide feed table. The price its going for seems very reasonable.
  5. LaserAce Hypsometer I'd have one of those in a shot. Unfortuantly they're very expensive the discounted end of line model before thast was about 1500 quid. Does the hard work for you though.
  6. Do you want me to PM you guys number with the Keto?
  7. I start with woodwise then jobs, classified then news. I did see that yes i'd rather an 8000 series valtra. Don't have the momeny for the lot i'm just starting with the timber trailer.
  8. Have you spent all day reading the FJ. I've only just round to opening mine it arrived this morning though.
  9. The one with the big chipper behind it in front of nicks new one?
  10. How fancy do they need to be? Suunto are the Rolls Royce of clinometers hence the price. I've got one but i very rarely use it. You can do it with a regular compass clinometers but the sighting has a bit less accuracy. They'll set you back 5 quid to 40 quid. Do you know any school teachers? If so look in their maths & geography supply books and there may be something in there.
  11. Didn't think of Kelsa. Well i did but i've never seen or used one so i couldn't comment on one.
  12. Keto 51 Keto Frost or Victor The 51 would be my choice but the others are basically newer models of the same thing. As for other options i think the Ponsse heads even the small ones are all nearly a tonne so bit big for an 8 tonner be ok on a 13. Valmets 330 head again would be at the heavy end around 750-900kg.
  13. Yes it is. It's in Finland.
  14. Cool. I'm thinking of picking up a s/h botex 10 trailer and a MB trac. Would that be too big for the stands? I'd like to work all over the country with it. It's going to be the first step to my valtra micro harvester. If you just spray up what you'd fell anyway it gives an idea what to aim for for less expereinced people and then get to learn the working side felling for you.
  15. Jon I'm off to Finland so not in a position to help. Do you ever need help with the extraction/forwarding side. I'm hoping to go big into this when i get back.
  16. Nice. Where was it looks like a nice location. Do anything with the trunk?
  17. Because you dared them too:001_tt2:
  18. How much hardwood can you fell in a week? That depends on the site conditions type of trees etc. The main factor is how good a cutter you are. A newbie may only fell a few tonnes a day a pro could be felling 15-20t. Pay could be anything from 50-150 a day per cutter. If I sell hardwood at roadside I get £30 per tonne right You charge what it cost to get it there plus a bit for profit. If you have to fell by hand winch it off a slope forwarder it to a stacking area a mile away then you won't make any money. What about costs. Insurance both employers and public liability Vehicle insurance 4x4 and tractor Small tool insurance admin costs marketing costs Staffing cost. maintenance costs running costs oh the list goes on. Does anyone have rough figures for costs of felling / extraction? Felling depends on if you want to pay day rate or tonnage. Day rate can be from 50-150 depending on who you employ. Extraction can cost from £8-30 a tonne. lots of vairables in extraction, site, kit, experence. Have you tried contacting business link for some help putting a business plan together?
  19. Thats what i do. I'm not sure if there is a real answer. I've been told your not supose to wear a Vertex on the ground by a NPTC assessor. Although i've had many assessments where they've worn them.
  20. Try the STIHL chain & bar manual the LANTRA chainsaw book. Out of interest did you do a PTLLS course or similar before going into the instructor/assessment role?
  21. Took just over a year to get my CS32 cert and card! With lots of chacing on my part. My CS33 came through in about 3 weeks as did my FMOs. Never hurd of this wrong picture though.
  22. The 390xpg is fantastic. Got a 24" on it and it flys. It can take a 36" but its not a CE approved combination. Can run .404 too but again not CE marked. I prefer the 390 to the 660. Never really liked the 660 though. I think if you get the US exhaust for the 395 it ups the power a bit.
  23. I've hurd that there a few site down in Devon that are covered in disesed larch that needs to be felled off but they're having problems with both harvest and extraction because of SAM and other important arceology.
  24. Highly recomend TFK. Did my 34/35 with them.
  25. I always take a CV with me to an interview and a copy of any aplication form i filled in. I wouldn't worry about putting pictuers on your CV distracts from the content. Although saying that i do have a picture embedded into the background of mine about about 98% transparency to make it look smart. I have made up a nice leather bound photo album full of 5x7 pictures of work i've done, which concentrats on what i've done. No use including a picture of 1km of top quality fencing if you only dug in one straining post! It's always gone down very well as one person can look at it durning an interview while the other questions you. Keep calm and answer truthfully,.
