  1. You might need two. Dozer PTOs run anti clockwise in my experiance
  2. Behold the Chipdozer! An unholy union of British, Latvian and Finnish engineering on a Satanic quest for Arboral destruction. I carried the chipper up an off a wet off camber track with the dozer instead of risking the Valtra. Shame the dozer dosnt have enough shaft speed to run the chipper. Be a propper weapon .
  3. Not many of them Joe. UK treework is mostly a doss. If you want to do big stuff on a daily basis you have to go to the PNW or the South Pacific. Thats my opinion after working in the UK for five years, BC for two and Alaska for three, as well as NZ for 5 before leaving for Canada.
  4. Eh? Do you truely beleive a person would be prosecuted post injury for not using two ropes?
  5. Setting the bar higher as to who can enter the industry as a climber would do alot more to reduce accidents than increasing the number of ropes used. I bet if you had enough money you could lobby for the mandatory use of SCUBA gear up a tree , weeks late Jo Hedger and Ben Rose would be flapping around aloft with two ropes and air tanks displaying to the world how easy it is. Its not a job for stupids, sadly anyone can get fully trained and still be totally incompetent on the job.The countries with large and difficult trees dont have all these pointless rules, and do the job much sharper and more productively than their UK counterparts.
  6. I reduced and shaped a 60 meter Beech hedge with a pair of them. The client stated he wanted it perfect and knew it would cost. The end result was staggering come spring.Worth every penny if your day involves thoudsands of cuts.
  7. Thats the problem. You are either on the very middle or very edge of the backing plate.
  8. No. The back of the "SM" is contoured, a contour that never really fits any tree shape so the bearing surface against the trunk is small. A GRCS folds around the trunk fitting any contour. You dont really switch between the winch and bollard during any big takedown in my experiance.Muting the SW's biggest promotion point, nor can you run two lines at the same time from memory. Also from memory the SM is impossible to install alone. In summary it felt like using a prototype and not a thought through product.
  9. Lack of versatility sums it up- Its a heavy fekker that cannot be broken down into two loads like the GRCS.Its a hard device to seat properly if you are lowring big bits, you have to feed all the slack through the spindle to tighten it up,not that you can get it tight anyhow. Its been over a decade since I trialed it but it was something we avoided using over the grcs.
  10. Its hard to beat the GRCS. The smart winch felt like a step back in time when we trialed it.
  11. I only ask of you one bank account numbers my darling friend trusted. After payment of the moneys is made to release the torrent of firewoods to your household for all of your burnings desired.
  12. I have very much of the logs for you my darling. Big and small, drying out and the wet ones too. Logs of every shape and size perfect for log burners of all the world. Please arrive at yard of mine to make a collection of conveniance.
  13. Not too bad from memory. It is possible to sometimes press the shaft out of the rollers but you can never guarantee it and its just not worth the potential hassel.I had 100 tonn on one roller stub once at a shipbuilders workshop trying to press it out.We ended up boring out the shaft and washing the rest out with the Oxy. Getting the flats milled true on the back face of the roller teeth would probably be more expensive than buying new rollers and shafts.
  14. Buy new rollers and shafts. Treat it to a top UJ while you are in there.
  15. The Reindyr in the mountains between Bergen and Oslo are radioactive from grazing upon pastures contaminated from Chernobyl. I eat them anyway.
  16. Good point. I think the smart phone and social media has had a big part to play in this too. I have a big job coming up, I need a few subbies , I organised all this in minutes with pictures of the job and set it in my digital calander.
  17. I have noticed it a bit even in wealthy Norway. Its been the interest rate hike that has put the brakes on peoples spending more than anything. Also people are less patient than before, meaning that now if I dont return that call untill the evening, they may have found another firm. That is especially frustrating when the caller might have been a repeat client. On the other hand,I have been operating without any form of advertising apart from sign written vehicles for about 18 months and to be honest it has increased my conversion rate as well as my day rate while still remaining busy. I put that down to people seeking out the company directly rather than Googling "Tree Felling " and picking the top three companies. I used to do alot of miles quoting jobs where people were simply curious about how much it would cost. I can see a number of new companies without broad customer bases shutting up shop. That is simply a symptom of market retraction. As an asside: Wouldnt it be fun to see how many Tree Surgery Companies there are now in the UK compared to 1982 for example,to see how that number has increased in contrast to population growth.
  18. In the woods last week tipping off a load.
  19. Yes But we always used chaps on our old chaps. Avoided the clap .
  20. Piggy backed each other. Like a chainsaw weilding hydra, high on cocaine and working to the thumping sound of Westfalian techno. JA! Side of the tree each.
  21. Big/ wide/spready . We used to pretty much strip them down to a single stem before the other guy got down. There was little or no draghing so groundies were always close by.
  22. We used to use two climbers quite a bit in Germany years ago. The brush used to be stacked on site for collection later, so it was easier for the groundies to keep up. On the right job and tree its quite fast. Two or more climbers up a large reduction is the way to go I think.
  23. M Large seems to be the Farmi dealer for UK and Ireland tree services belfast | tree surveys belfast | wood processors | log splitters | wood chippers | timber trailers MLARGE.COM M.Large stock a wide range of firewood and forestry equipment including Hakki Pilke firewood processors...
  24. Email this bloke. [email protected] He is the sales engineer and in the least should point you to the UK agent. Or buy one from the factory.
