  1. I cant beleive the output. We have a 400 Joy and the RN 3000 log deck which we load with our Avant and log grab!
  2. I had this with my 03 L200 a while back. changed the fuel filter and was sorted. couldn't believe the difference just by changing the filter. The cheapest easiest fix I have ever had. Last week we had the same problem with our canter. Change of the fuel filter and she is going strong again. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the Jaguar with the same problem!!!
  3. We have a wireless terminal that has it own sim card and picks up signal from various networks. Been great for us as you can do a payment at the end of the day in front of them and give them the receipt there and then. Has been great for firewood. We can also do payments over the phone. By far the best way in my opinion. I find getting to the bank to pay cheques in isnt easy to find the time. And then the 5 days to clear means it can take a while to see the money.
  4. Protimeter Timbermater. Species specific reading and seems accurate. About £200 though.
  5. How long is the offer on showcase adverts valid for Steve?
  6. After seasoned hardwood timber either cord or arb arisings in Suffolk. Can arrange haulage. I know there is such a thing as getting organised but we are not all perfect and are quickly running out of our stock. I also appreciate it will come at a premium.
  7. I was in your position about 4 years ago. Had a steady stream of my own work whilst still working for various other companies. Slowly keep buying more kit and getting more work until you can eventually support yourself with your own work. I now work completely for myself and brother and keep another chap in work aswell. Also using other climbers and ground staff when needed. Dont be afraid of finance. We used to hire chippers regularly. Which used to cost pretty much £100 a day after fuel to collect/drop off and VAT. You would also work as hard as you can to get the most out of it in a day and then get it back in time. We bought a chipper nearly 2 years ago now on finance. We still price a chipper in as though it was hired in. We only have to use it 2 days a month and it pays its monthly bill. It goes out most days so brings in alot more than it costs each month. Brilliant for cash flow! Always buy the best you can afford. Any vehicle works hard doing this job so make sure it is a good one to start with. If it breaks down and you are without it for a day you soon lose money!
  8. We use radios on bigger job. Just a normal set of four with a kit for motorbike helmets. Only £15 from maplin i think. Not the tidiest of set ups but work great and everyone can hear what is going on. They are great especially and make life so much easier. You dont have to wait for someone on the ground to come back round from the front garden before you can get there attention. Also means your groundy can take a look from miles away to point out any missed bits rather than backwards and forwards. Cant recommend radios enough!
  9. My Fungi ID isnt great by any means. I recently went to look at some trees where this stuff was everywhere. The owner says it falls down from the tree. Which backs up my thought of Dryads as its normally situated up high. Its also on sycamore. The only pics I can find on the net are of fresh brackets. Cheers Jay
  10. My yard is full of Willow, Conifer and Poplar and am running out of space for the decent wood. I have tried to get in touch with Bio mass companies but so far no result. Do any of you have any surggestions as to what to do with it. I cant mix it in log loads as there is more rubbish than decent at the moment. Im based mid Suffolk. Cheers Jay
  11. cheers Andy Ill give them a ring.
  12. Does anyone know of any quarries near Rendlesham were I can collect gravel from and also somewhere I can collect topsoil. Many thanks Jay
  13. I would say working on a crane job and observing whats going has got to be better than anything.
  14. By far the quickest easiest and most comfortable way to deal with it. I know its not quite brambles but it got through this in no time!
  15. I know its a bit more money but an AVANT we have one and it gets used everyday for anything. run a log splitter, log grab, fork tines, post hole borer, flail, rotavator, pulling out fence posts, general bucket, pulling trailers/chippers. and you can get it anywhere wider than 110cm cant knock it!
  16. thanks for your advice hopefully im a step further, cheers
  17. I have been meaning to get my quad registered for ages and looking forward to the winter and snow and pigeons needing shooting thought i better get on the case. My quad is a 300 fourtrak which they no longer make a light kit for. However I started looking into the road lighting act and legislation and basically narrowed it down to only needing a brake light. this due to it weighing not alot and not over a certain width (sounds strange but true) I have filled out a V55?? as much as I can and now need to send it off. Does anyone know any info on this subject and weather I need to do anything else to get it registered? Thanks for your help Jay
  18. as far as im aware its all under an agricultural resistration. So like a tractor doesnt need mot, but you have to display a tax disc but its free.
  19. I think age has alot to do with it, I have an L200 when I was 18 I paid 1800 with trust then 1200 the next year with trust, then it went up to 2200 the next year. So I changed to NFU at 1500 and they cover the girl friend aswell, always handy for those pub nights!!!
  20. if your subbing be prepared and confident to take on any job without seeing it first. i regularly pay a climber £150 a day, but he is very experienced, quick and i know he is capable of anything i throw at him.
  21. Does anyone now of a tip site near Grays in Essex. I have a job tomorrow which I have only been able to price from pictures and its a bit hard to estimate the amount of waste. Its to far from my yard to drive back and tip. Any help much appreciated. Cheers Jay
  22. we get alot wanting to get us to the top of google. for a fortune!

  25. thanks guys. it sure is alex. we did the fence along the wall. was a nightmare job as the wall curves and bends goes up and down in every direction the only thing it isnt is straight and level!
