binned off hedge laying, despite having a roaring bonfire, we've just been out with the sledge and it didnt start until about 2ish and its a few inchs deep already
  2. PM TWmarriot on here, hes after quantities oak for milling in the midlands.
  3. get it on ebay Matty, you make a good return on it the money they are making at the moment! its all this money in firewood thats making winching timber out using ancient kit so profitable
  4. i like the fact that the photo they have use in that advert for the main picture is before they took it to bits and it doesnt even have an engine, Im not sure its worth the £1500 as scrap
  5. I dont think so, its a big winch and its got radio remote on it I'd say its not a bad price at all at that, assuming its all straight with a good cable on it
  6. Hi Jon it was a norse 250 so not even 3ton mate, only 2.5 looked tidy but there's a 9t igland in wilsons with radio remote for just over double that price!
  7. Kockums GP822 Timber Harvester Skidder Tractor | eBay How handy are you in the workshop
  8. Unless they blow big heaps of chip under the retained veteran trees including heaped up the trunks
  9. the new 560xpg has one setting only, the carb heater kicks in when the temp drops below a certain level as determined by the saw
  10. I run a fair amount of multicut and I really rate it, especially when im cutting things like riverside trees that will have had flood water around them and be full of debris, also they take knocks from nails and staples better than most others. I have loops for most my saws to put on if im doing something where im going to be dealing with dirty timber, eg skidded poles, partially burnt timber and riverside trees I recon Im sharpening about 3x more using a normal semi chisel on riverside work compared to the multicut
  11. Dont be afraid to get stuck into the holly on a couple of the sites im advising on we are clearing acres of the stuff as its stoping regen, smothering the ground flora and generally taking over the woodland, and in terms of biodiversity its not good having a monoculture of holly for large areas. its not so much fun actually felling and clearing the stuff though
  12. Right started on this now finally, the clutchs are stuck on and the clutch levers arent attached to the clutches, so I can see im going to have some fun and games with this, any suggestions for getting the drums off?
  13. Agreed I dont think your going to make much head way in chasing grants for SRC, where in the Midlands are you as the grant funding changes at a reasonable local level depending if your in an FC priority area for creation etc,
  14. I see Jason's done you on the duals one of thems on the wrong way or is that for tactical withdrawal when the wetland gets to boggy chipper looks mint mate hope its all going well with you
  15. Im looking for a haulier to move a load of timber from Uttoxeter to Melton Mowbray, this would fit on a rigid wagon and would probably be easier than a artic. If anyone has any contacts in this area please feel free to let me know contacts by either replying or dropping me a PM Cheers Charlie
  16. Alanaecology / nhbs stock them reasonably prices £42-43 not sure what the shipping would be to you, also FR Jones who is one of the site sponsors stock them as well at a similar price I dont know if this is of any use

    560xpg

dont forget that with the 8pin drive sprocket you technically need class 3 ppe as chain speed is up at 25/mtrs/second I must admit, having bought one without trying it first, im really chuffed to bits with mine, I wonder if the 550xp and 543xp will be as good, I must admit the 543 could well be an awesome saw and a screamer at 14500rpm!

    560xpg

still really impressed with mine got an 18" powermatch plus to go on it as well now, its rapidly becoming the go to saw over the 346 not sure if it will handle the bigger drive sprocket on an 18" bar though, so will have to check that one out
  19. If you find someone doing a decent snatch block designed for skidding let me know, as the ones we have been using arent really upto being dragged around in the mud etc,
  20. Hi Jon you may want to ensure the rating on the snatch block your looking for is upto the job, if your using it to redirect or double up, as it will increase the pull rating of the winch, so really you want to be looking at 9ton minimum really if its for the one off job a land rover 9ton snatch block will be fine as can be found on ebay
  21. you could try Andrew Bronwin and co, or Prior and Ricketts and see if they have anything on the estates they manage locally. Alternatively I know there is some good oak logs coming of a site in the Wyre forest in the next 3weeks, I dont know who the agent is but I can find out if your interested.
  22. Im really interested to hear how you get on with the Ecoplugs for creating standing dead wood, and if they are effective. I had toyed with them for stump treatment but they seem so expensive
  23. Its a requirement to leave some of the timber for agri environment from memory, so if a big tree blows down and its one that gains points in your agri environment scheme you will have to retain a quantity of timber although its not the whole tree. (i think this is from in-field/hedgerow trees rather than woodland options) There are specific guidance for standing and falled dead wood habitat in FC guidelines, I currently think its 4trees per hecate of both types, although on sites of high nature conservation this will obviously be increased if there is some merit to doing this. I have no issue with leaving timber for habitat, but did you leave it in pole lenght as in the first photo as in my opinion this isnt overly valuable compared to stacks, although this isnt always an option for safety reasons and if as mendip logs says this doesnt work if people are going to carry it off in short lenghts
  24. They will want some gorse proof trousers! I bet they wont be happy about the ones that bounced to the bottom either
  25. Nice! bet your glad to get back in a clear up, if your up there tomorrow I may pop up, you chipping yet or just getting it out? oh I think i lost my felling lever, you may want to check the brash before feeding it through the chipper only joking
