  1. Thanks for the replies I'll be there on the Sunday.
  2. Guys, I've never been to watch a tree climbing comp. Is it worth going? I'm considering going to Newport, but is a long drive. Who else is going from here.
  3. Treeline, I think you have just proved that the piece of paper is of some use, as this is just one of the areas covered in the NPTC assessment. Don't under-estimate the importance of training, but experience is needed to implement correct techniques.
  4. My problem with wearing company T shirts, is that they make your expensive breathable jacket useless.
  5. For five hundred quid you can get a Specialized Rock Hopper. Great bike, does not have discs but can be retro fitted if your not happy with standard. I picked up a minter on Ebay for £175.
  6. Yep, exhaust burns forearm:scared1: Bought mine for hobbles, taken ages to run in, but is quite nice to use now. I still prefer 020. One 020 at work is over 10 years old and cuts fine, even though it was dropped 60 ft on to road.
  7. Dean you are right that everyone should be insured, but the subbie may not be ultimately responsible. For example: If a subbie doing a job for a main contractor has an accident and damages the clients building, the main contractor is vicariously liable (tort). The client will look to be reimbursed by the main contractor, if there is a dispute then a civil case may be brought by the client. If the main contractor looses then his PL will pay.The main contractor or his insurance co may then try to recover the award from the subbie, by bringing a civil case against them. The outcomes of the civil cases will be based "On the balance of probabilities". The judge will look at evidence, such as H&S policy, compliance etc.
  8. Peter, I must agree that it is not directly linked, but the WAH regs say that work at height should be properly planned. If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident which results in a prosecution, the guy in the wig will be looking for guidance on how to deal with you. He will look at the GTGCP as this is an ACOP, published in conjunction with the HSE. The GTGCP gives a "Risk hierarchy" where "Wherever practicable a handsaw should be chosen in preference to chainsaw use". True the GTGCP are guide lines, but make sure you can justify not following them. Ps. I was just trying to get a response, when posting my first post.
  9. For those of you who are not carrying a hand saw, I take it that you have not read or choose to ignore the Guide to good Climbing Practice. Therefore not complying with the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
  10. HARPO, try the Matheny and Clark, Photographic guide to the Evaluation of Hazard Trees. The basic Lantra course is just that, and most other books may go in to too much depth. However, Principles of Tree Hazard Assessment and Management, and The Body Language of Trees, are excellent but expensive.
  11. I agree that "heavy reductions" are sometimes the right way to go to maintain habitat etc. But lets be honest, and call a spade a spade, it is topping!
  12. One of our customers built a clay oven under the tree we had quoted on. The limb was 15' above the new oven and was approx 28" in diameter. He couldn't see the problem!
  13. CS 41 Training
  14. Recommended SWL 10:1, therefore 600Kg.
  15. We are looking for an experienced climber. Must be able to dismantle with rigging, and work to a high standard. Company is located in Pembrokeshire. Call me if interested 07974 303558.
  16. Hi misterTee, the exams went ok I think. Iv'e e mailed my address to you. If you need anything I'll try to help.
  17. I,ve sat the Tech' cert this summer. To get ready for the management exercises, I realise that I dont know how to set out a woodland survey. Has anyone got templates, or know where I can see examples. Cheers Guys.
  18. We run at 2500 rpm on our u1000, with a 10" Junkarri chipper. Top speed on the flat is just over 60kmph:thumbsdown:
  19. Remind the LA tree officer of his powers using The Miscellaneous Provisions Act, and his duty of care.
  20. I have recently bought a husqvarna 357XP. Does anyone know whre I can get .325 full chisel chains from? It will need to be mail order. Thanks.
  21. Just for a matter of intrest, that was applanatum. The two are quite easy to tell apart. applanatum has a flat underside, and a clear margin between brown top and white bottom. adspersum has a lumpy underside, and a lumpy margin. There are other differances, but these are the most staight forward.
  22. More Bow than Wow.
  23. Who did these?
  24. A pikey near us displays "birch specialists" on his transit. Have been dying to ask him what makes him one of those!
