  1. Short vid of me SRT'ing up a beech this week. Much easier climb as it had quite a lean. [ame] [/ame]
  2. Third tree of five that we are removing. Swept beech, lowered off adjacent tree. Got the SRT gear out to get up this one. The customer wants the stumps left at 2m, so he can carve them. I will post vid when I have time.
  3. I've had no luck with BS3936 part 1, anyone got it? Thanks for other info.
  4. Has anyone got a copy of BS 3936 parts 1, 4 and 5 that they can copy and send to me? I also need a copy of BS4043. Thanks in advance.
  5. I can recommend Proclimber. They do need payment in advance, but this is a perfectly reasonable request IMO
  6. Gimmer, look on the AA website, under publications. They list the current values there.
  7. I have a sawpod and find it great when climbing. Two weeks ago however I had a bizarre accident when wearing one. We were on a small job so were stacking brash in the trailer. After a few "while you are here" additions, the amount of brash grew, I jumped on to the trailer to squash the brash with my considerable mass, all going hunky-dory, then I jumped back off the trailer. As I landed my Sugoi in the sawpod jumped up out of the scabard, as my hands swung forward. Lots of claret, which we stemmed with the first aid kit. My customer was a retired A&E nurse so she steristriped it. Two days later went to A&E for a nurse with good eyesight to do it again!
  8. Sciadopitys, the achievement is not having F. Arbor A after your name, but either your record of level 4 CPD or your level 4 qualification. The AA now allows you to give proof of your skills and CPD since the RFS Prof Dip Arb' became a level 6 qualification. This allows you to demonstrate your ability, that you have gained practically. Read what is required, a good idea IMHO. I see that you are not struggling to have letters after your name: NPTC! BTW I am also ISA cert' arb', but I dont feel I need to shout about it. I also have several "O" levels (also level 2), an "A" level (level 3) and a HND (level 4) ISA Cert Arb equates to level 2, and its multiple choice!
  9. The 10 id's were not photos for my exam. (Sat at Capel Manor). Total c*@p being written about AA Profess membership. You need to have level 4 qualification, or documented proof of working to that standard, (giving AA examples of projects/ responsibilities etc)
  10. Make sure yo swot up on TPO's and fungi. There was a lot of TPO based questions in my exam. Also be familiar with UK Health and Safety.
  11. I chipped some re-bar, five uniform pieces. No damage apart from the blades.
  12. I use a caritool, and have only had to replace it once in two years. Downside to using one: I once had the saw strop, my rope, my strop and a branch all in it at the same time, I couldn't move!
  13. I've got a 338, and it has needed a period of running in. I use 200T's at work and are a better saw IMO. We run five MS 260,s they are a good daily use saw, a bit under powered with 16" bars on but for the weight saving it is worth putting up with. A common problem with 260's is that they cut out, this is almost always the large clip getting loose in the centre of the saw. I also have a 357, excellent but heavy. 066 with 30" bar is an awesome saw. Worst things about Huskys: bars wear quickly; on/off choke switch; many pulls to start; in-board clutch; difficult to replace chain brake band. Worst things about stihls: AV mounts; noise they make; air filter design.
  14. I,ll PM you now. Will be having some of those special offers!
  15. Sycamore from two weeks ago. All rigged down apart from last 15 ft.
  16. Johnty, book yourself on a rigging course. PUWER 98
  17. Ratchet straps are not designed for rigging. Do you know what the SWL is? Get trained and use the right kit.
  18. Bodean, your picture is neither a cow hitch, or a timber hitch. Where did you learn that knot?
  19. Hi andy, What rate are you looking for, to travel to Pembrokeshire? May have opportunities. PM me with rates and your experience etc.
  20. Provision and use of work equipment regs. Management of health and safety at work regs. It is not the No fee'ers fault. This is why operators should be given training prior to using equipment. It is the whole point of the chainsaw courses, IMHO it is not a good idea for you to "teach" them saw/ climbing first. Let them have a period of consolidation after training before assessment, that is a great idea. This story gives the link between your certificate of competence, and the law. You have been warned in black and white by someone elses misfortune/ mistake.
  21. forgetting to remove the anchor point that I was attached to, when topping leylandi.
  22. Really a question for Mr Ed. I,m going to Snowdonia in a couple of weeks, staying near Caernarfon, what are must sees, especially on Anglesea
  23. Cerne, so you don't want to pay for something you can already do. So why are you having to ask how to complete a rescue. I'm glad your not my groundie with your attitude and lack of aptitude, your fault or not.
  24. Does anyone know if this applies to Wales as the Amendment states that it is "England Regs" Our local council is listed in the planning portal, but does it all apply and if it does where does it say this. (I knew a Welsh Assembly was a bad idea)
