  1. Very nicely done Mr Witt.
  2. Oval carabiners completely necessary, I tend to use an oval beneath and an hms above. I climb with many climbers who use different combinations of hms, offset d,s and ovals.
  3. Very true, can,t deny that. I,ve only used the technique to descend short distances to knock out sections of a stem, long descents are impractical because of the amount of rope required and the rope on rope problem you mentioned. However it does retrieve very well and is easy to set up. It works better with a wider rigging ring and does need to be seated safely before you put your weight on it.

    Fimblsaver

I,d be interested to know how much that cost to make?
  5. Have you tried passing a bight taken above your friction hitch, passing that through the rigging ring and attaching it to your bridge through a revolver. Your friction hitch carabiner also needs to be attached to your bridge. You need to make sure it seated well before you descend though.

    Fimblsaver

Does anyone know when Teufelbergers Fimblsaver is coming out and how much it will cost.
  7. You may want to look at the 'new pole system' thread on climbers talk.
  8. Hi Al,

I,ve been climbing for about 17 years, I have all the relevant certs and passed my driving test pre 1997. I have been self employed for 10 years working throughout the south and Germany. Please feel free to contact me on my mobile (07766 141 373) if you are still looking for climbers.

    Thanks

    Quentin.

  9. Make sure your visor is down before you make your cut. Very easy to forget!
  10. The Croll and Ascension are desigined to be used as a unit, not individually. To disengage completely from the system and escape the rope requires the removal of both devices, 4 movements in total.
  11. Marmite, you either love big trees or you don,t. BOOM:sneaky2: Sorry Marc, Morris and I couldn,t resist it.

    Oak fell

    Very nice Mr Witt!
  13. Hi Mark, i could not agree more. The mutisaver is great in that situation, i have one myself and use the same setup on poles. However, it only works on thinner stems. The system I showed allows you to descend on very wide stems, to wide for a multisaver. P.S. The setup I showed does work better with a wider green ring. Hi Jarnii, hope all is well.
  14. I hope this helps. I would like to add a note of caution, the system requires a controlled descent to prevent the possible damage to your rope from excessive friction and needs to be wieghted before removing your lanyard.
  15. This is a technique i,m been using to descender on a pole. Attach a DMM green rigging ring to the end of your clinbing line with a knot or cinch it with a large eye if you have one. Pass the ring around the pole, form a bite above your friction hitch on the other side and pass it through the ring. Pull the bite through and connect it to a revolver clipped to your rope bridge. You can then descend on your climbing knot to the base of your tree, unclip the bite and pull the whole system free. Hope this helps.
  16. Well done!
  17. A beech takedown from last week.
  18. Experienced Berkshire climber looking for Sunday work, just wondering if anyone can help?
  19. Hi Damien, I would be very interested in work during Feburary, could you PM some details. Many Thanks.

    Best rope?

Your wieght is an important factor to consider when picking a rope and to a lesser degree your experience. Heavier climbers are normally better off with a larger diameter rope, as are newbie climbers.
  21. The tree had lost it's two main leaders some time ago. It could have been storm damage and/or an structural weakness, I cannot say for sure. Yes, it is in Henley.
  22. Our job today. Removing two large lateral limbs and shaping the remainder. Unfortunately I only got a picture of the left hand limb, the right hand limb was a similar size.
  23. Hi Mark, repairing storm damage in Godalming, Surrey.
  24. Great job, Great Day!
