  1. Pretty much. Travel into the jungle by canoe, meet some village elders and hand out some cash for anyone willing to donate. Some shamen insisted they to go on drug induced spirit journeys first. But I don't think the university RAMS covered that aspect. They also had issues getting it back to the UK as a pilot refused to carry biological samples.
  2. Sperm count is apparently falling, I have a friend who has just returned from Colombia where he has been collecting semen samples from local indigenous tribe men with little contact to the "modern" world. We think tree work has challenges..
  3. I don't think it's testosterone.. Most of the young lads I employ have more then enough. Swaggering about puffing their chests and fighting is one of the challenges you have to deal with when employing groups of young men..
  4. Sylvagen have taken arb arisings from us in unchipped form. It might not be very profitable, but it can be an effective way of clearing the yard of wood.
  5. I am ready to be corrected but they don't look to have been applied very well. https://www.monsanto-ag.co.uk/media/1958/ecoplug_product-info-guide_2012.pdf
  6. I have also been told similar, but if you read the google maps terms and conditions you can use them in reports. You have to reference them.
  7. What has probably changed is a jobsworth planning officer or TO without a modicum of common sense..
  8. As Edward said specification from a photo is not really best practice. But that tree should retained if possible. The 2 lines I drew showed 2 different internal canopies either could be cut back to imo depending on the assessment of the trees stability. It would probably be better for the tree if it could be done in a staged manner but if you are concerned with the stability you are probably going to want to cut to the red line to make a significat difference and so probably wouldn't be happy leaving it at the orange line for a year or so.. There are also additional costs doing it staged. I might add I don't think the soil type is relevant or the other tree that fell over.
  9. That oak tree is worth retaining if possible.. It will likely tolerate a hard reduction it is trying to do it naturally itself.. You can see internal canopies to cut back to. It's what engliah oaks do.. thats why they can live 900 years.
  10. While I agree it's not difficult to get o licence, you can get a lot of 7.5 ton truck for the money and the extra payload means they are much more suitable.. When they break they cost more to fix... You do need 12 week checks, the MOT is considerably more involved and training drivers is costly and time consuming especially if you are an employer..
  11. You charged an extra £500 for an extra groundie..?
  12. My view is there is always something to do.. Rake, Sharpen saws, etc.. etc.. With only 2 men the climber often ends up waiting for the ground to be clear. And the clear up takes longer.. Why would you pay climber rates to rake up... ...But skyhuck's big kit slow and steady method has a huge advantage... Not have employees who cause huge headaches..

  15. After speaking with Dean at bandit we have some different options. Trade in our 44hp 2150 for a 38hp zt1844. The zt is similar width as hb20 but apparently comparable in grinding ability to our big 2150..? Any opinions on the zt1844
  16. We've had our hb20 7 years and had the engine rebuilt last year. Been using oil ever since.
  17. Recommendations please.. Our HB20 has been great but it is getting on now.. We have a big grinder so don't need it for the bigger stumps.. Tempted just to go with another HB20 but lots more out there now
  18. It's used a lot for recommendations.. The local I love "my village" groups. I did sign up to a bunch of local groups for a while in an attempt to get in the mix but the majority seemed to be low end work and I got bored with trawling through the other posts..
  19. Not me.. I quoted £5,500.. and that was me wanting the job..... How much did you go in at?
  20. In my 15 years of quoting there has been only 1 job that I tried renegotiating on. The massive infamous spodon poplar.. I quoted seperately to 2 neighbours with poplars in adjacent gardens. I pollarded one and it took me twice as long as expected. I took that hit but told the neighbour I couldn't do their bigger tree for what I priced. They were not happy and we didn't do it. 5 years later a new owner is finally having it done..
  21. Be carefull what you wish for with exit strategies.. Mine was to move off the tools and into running the business and consultancy.. It has all gone to plan and I haven't done any real work in years.... But I am busier then ever, get very little satisfaction out of work, have to exercise to stop getting fat and miss the climbing, which I can no longer do even if I had the time.... and the money still isn't amazing...
  22. It's still not amazing when a Honda Civic 1.6 diesel will do 65.5mpg (according to Honest John's Real MPG figures)..
  23. Hyundai iqonic looks like a useable pev.
  24. Face book updated me today on my £60 Facebook boosted post. It was seen by 14,000 people, I had 45 messaging conversations started... but no leads that I am aware of... I won't be doing it again...
  25. Yes, but who would be interested in anything I would want to tweet? and how is that going to increase customers..
