  1. You charged an extra £500 for an extra groundie..?
  2. My view is there is always something to do.. Rake, Sharpen saws, etc.. etc.. With only 2 men the climber often ends up waiting for the ground to be clear. And the clear up takes longer.. Why would you pay climber rates to rake up... ...But skyhuck's big kit slow and steady method has a huge advantage... Not have employees who cause huge headaches..

  5. After speaking with Dean at bandit we have some different options. Trade in our 44hp 2150 for a 38hp zt1844. The zt is similar width as hb20 but apparently comparable in grinding ability to our big 2150..? Any opinions on the zt1844
  6. We've had our hb20 7 years and had the engine rebuilt last year. Been using oil ever since.
  7. Recommendations please.. Our HB20 has been great but it is getting on now.. We have a big grinder so don't need it for the bigger stumps.. Tempted just to go with another HB20 but lots more out there now
  8. It's used a lot for recommendations.. The local I love "my village" groups. I did sign up to a bunch of local groups for a while in an attempt to get in the mix but the majority seemed to be low end work and I got bored with trawling through the other posts..
  9. Not me.. I quoted £5,500.. and that was me wanting the job..... How much did you go in at?
  10. In my 15 years of quoting there has been only 1 job that I tried renegotiating on. The massive infamous spodon poplar.. I quoted seperately to 2 neighbours with poplars in adjacent gardens. I pollarded one and it took me twice as long as expected. I took that hit but told the neighbour I couldn't do their bigger tree for what I priced. They were not happy and we didn't do it. 5 years later a new owner is finally having it done..
  11. Be carefull what you wish for with exit strategies.. Mine was to move off the tools and into running the business and consultancy.. It has all gone to plan and I haven't done any real work in years.... But I am busier then ever, get very little satisfaction out of work, have to exercise to stop getting fat and miss the climbing, which I can no longer do even if I had the time.... and the money still isn't amazing...
  12. It's still not amazing when a Honda Civic 1.6 diesel will do 65.5mpg (according to Honest John's Real MPG figures)..
  13. Hyundai iqonic looks like a useable pev.
  14. Face book updated me today on my £60 Facebook boosted post. It was seen by 14,000 people, I had 45 messaging conversations started... but no leads that I am aware of... I won't be doing it again...
  15. Yes, but who would be interested in anything I would want to tweet? and how is that going to increase customers..
  16. I went to a free training event from Natwest "How to Use Facebook to Generate Leads." The instructor thought I needed a twitter account and should be regularilly posting.. I was not convinced... They also said paying to boost a post was good.. I tried, you can allegedly target a physical area, age group etc.. Utter rubbish.. My £60 got my post seen by thousands (5 or 6 think). I had about 30 responses, most were, "sorry I pressed by mistake." A few were for services we don't supply and several were in Spanish...
  17. My brother inlaw was Sicilian, starting a business in Sicily had all sorts of additional problems.
  18. And its still not easy to make good money in my experience..
  19. The boss is buying kit necessary for work..? If he didn't have saws and vehicles he wouldn't be able to pay anyone anything...?
  20. ..Should.... I did an appeal for a crappy grey poplar in a community housing group. 12 residents living in this trees shadow with roots lifting the pavement a shoots coming up in half their front gardens. They all came out on mass at the appeal and still the pins inspector upheld the lpa's refusal. Only one resident from the other side of the estate wanted to keep it.. I despair at the whole TPO process..
  21. The bungalows are at least 20 years old.. But I disagree with your premis .. If trees are thought to be important lpa's should not give planning to biuld close when they are obviously going to become an issue..
  22. But what better reason is there.... It is a healthy tree but in the wrong place. The owner and neighbours want it gone the lpa doesn't. It is down to an opinion and opinions differ..
  23. The first reason for the refusal of the second application is valid and I would not have made the application to reduce the tree had they not suggested it..... The proposed works would have a detrimental affect on the appearance of the tree which makes a significant contribution to the appearance and character of the area. The local planning authority is not satisfied that there are any reasons for the works that are sufficient to over-ride the beneficial impact that the tree has on the character of the area that would otherwise be seriously reduced.
  24. I have also in the past made multiple applications for different works to the same tree at the same time, but in this case I didn't, and still don't think the reduction is a good idea.. I only changed it as the LPA said they would not give permission for the fell and we should change it to a reduce. The client wasn't happy but wanted something done to the tree. They LPA have now rejected the reduce that they recommended we apply for..... and withdrawn my original application to fell... I am not going to appeal the reduce as it was their stupid idea but I would appeal the fell as it is a sensible idea...
