  1. Thinking of getting one just to get away for odd weekends in the UK and maybe odd trip abroad. What resource do you use for locating sites and their facilities and prices?
  2. Starmer sprinkled in glitter! 😂🤣😂🤣
  3. Morning. Quick bit of screen time then cold calling again in South Yorkshire - anyone want to buy a chipper?
  4. I tried Adrian Flux as my Hot Rod and Disco were with them but they were over a grand. She has never claimed on a motoring policy but hasn't got proof in bits of paper etc or she was on a family policy where she was not the proposer etc. She has had a load of sheds through life and is rewarding herself for the hard work/crap jobs/poor pay and cheap cars she has had in life. Even though she was a named driver on my Disco 4 for 4 years and could drive the GreenMech tow tug for the last 12 - this matters not a jot! Insurance companies don't even wear a mask when they rob you!!!
  5. A right curved ball has been thrown at this! Got the car, right happy with it but annoyed that, even as old gits, it is a tad dear to insure....heyho, get on with life. Today, she gets an email. As she only has written prove that she can provide of the last insurer over the last three years, they want an additional fee of close on £400!!!! I go to the Swift online site, fill it in with reduced 'Excess' and add me as a named driver and the 3 years proven. The quote comes back at approx £150 more than the original........ Go to the same comparison site I used before and put in the same details (excess, proven and me as a driver) and one is about £230 less than the Swift original price! Bizarrely, I have to have a black box fitted. Otherwise it is about £50 sobs cheaper. I can feel some angry phone calls coming on!

    Jokes???

I tried but it goes to answerphone, anyone got an alternative contact?
  7. Hmmm. As hot water expands, it wants to go somewhere. Some systems have the expansion tanks and others don't- just a loose hose, depends on the radiator cap as to what happens. With the right cap and expansion bottle, the hot water gets in to the tank and as the system cools, it gets back into the radiator. Other systems just pressurise but the cap keeps the pressure in (up to a point) but have a loose hose downwards from the cap to exhaust fluid etc in the event of bother! What engine have you? Is there an expansion tank there? Is it under warranty from your supplier?

    Hoovers

I used to get on with my Dyson. I lost faith in the brand when they moved production abroad and their service side went bad! Shark I've heard is good. Missus has them things called Henry etc - utter shite IMHO!
  9. We have a budget of a kilo per day vat trade shows. Just plain Nicky Lauda's ears!!!
  10. Done that twice and it gets a tad expensive too!
  11. Swift were the cheapest! But, they quoted her more online than me! How does that work? Others who had my business in the past were nearly twice the price or declined to quote! She does small mileage and upped the voluntary excess too!
  12. And 50 sobs to park the van?
  13. I have different dreams than that and cannot roll over in bed!
  14. The advice is, disable it by pressing the lights button three times followed by unlock, or place the key in a Faraday box (available from online retailers) and even consider a steering wheel lock!
  15. Done some digging and a couple of calls later, it transpires that the insurance market is very wary of vehicles which have keyless entry, although, no one could tell me the real difference between a key fob sending a signal at the press of a button or a key fob that interacts with the vehicle without you pressing the button. Actuarial statistics show that these get pinched more than others! The market is awash with Evoques too...... For the record, she has been driven since 87, never claimed and has a clean licence! A comparison site showed some staggering results from 700 upto £4,500! These folk don't even wear a mask when they rob you!
  16. The Missus has gone and got a 64plate Evoque. Previously had a BMW Mini and is a named driver on my Disco 4 and covered too on the GreenMech Ranger tow tug. Churchill insure the Disco but decline to quote and it seems that it is expensive to insure - even Saga (she is only just +50) want and eye watering £1900 pa, but then, Saga is a scammy organisation that preys on us oldies! Cheapest so far is £730. Anyone know of a good source of insurance?
  17. Just about to leave the house! Watch out, I'm cold calling flogging chippers!
  18. Raf will enlighten us but he is not available atm!
  19. Got to be honest, we do a bit then go to another job, then refer to Vanguard and do something else with it and get a different set of symptoms. Compound that with a right busy department, and a tad short staffed, it hasn't been an easy, quick fix! I think it has had a lot of new components fitted but probably unnecessarily as Raf and Jason still aren't happy and neither is Vanguard!
  20. Are you sure that the deal is down as HP with deposit and vat up front or is it a lease with no deposit and vat charged monthly? It'll not be yours at the term end without huge balloon payment!
  21. I'm awake and feel a tad tired after three of my elderly fathers half pint Gin and Tonics!
  22. Late night check in! Body clock all a4se about face!
  23. If done right with the right attitude, it can be very lucrative. But, you do have to be aware that there are those out there who will not pay their account, wreck machinery, take or swap parts for their own kit etc. I've a raft of horror stories from the hire trade but the hirers, have, on balance, done well out of things. I would be wary of the "cross hires" to the big nationals as they take too long to pay from what I hear.
  24. Hi Folks, bit of shameless begging on the go here...... In about two weeks, Tom, my son, is off to The States to enter two Drag and Drive events in a car he hasn't driven or seen in the flesh! I have promised a chunk of money for the expenses and ask if there are any other philanthropic "gear heads" who want to buy some sticker space? Is anyone in touch with tree folk in the states who may be interested in advertising on the car - win, loose or draw? HOME | Rocky Mountain Race Week | RMRW WWW.ROCKYMOUNTAINRACEWEEK.COM Rocky Mountain Race Week (RMRW) is the ultimate test of drag racers, competing on different tracks every day for a week! This drag and drive event is one you can not miss! Death Week 2023 — Sick the Mag WWW.SICKTHEMAGAZINE.COM If everything goes well, there will be coverage on various social media platforms and YouTube channels from a variety of folk and he is entered as a driver at Sick Week 2024 in Florida. Sick Week 2024 — Sick the Mag WWW.SICKTHEMAGAZINE.COM Thanks for taking the time to read this. Peter Bagguley
