  1. Not really Ed,this is in rural Ohio . Kind of where the hoot owls romance the chickens .
  2. Well yes I suppose it would . I just find it amazing you can actually sell kindling wood . Difference in areas of the world I suppose . It may sound unbelievable but I doubt I use two 5 gallon buckets full a year .Just split some dry ash or something that splits easily and start the fire . Keep in mind though that the fire may not go out for months at a time between November and March .
  3. That came out wrong .Should have said never saw kindling wood for sale . Must be a regional thing . Here we just take an axe and make our own .
  4. Umm,I've seen kindling for sale at any price .
  5. The biggest problem with the 166 is rarity of repair parts . Fact is I know of two others for sale at this time . The 166 Sachs-Dolmar has a mystique about it almost like the 090 Stihl ,SP 125 McCulloch and 2100 Homelite . Fact is I own both the big Mac and Homey and have operated the big Stihl and Dolmar . To be quite truthfull of the four the Stihl is the slowest and likely the other three are nearly the same in stock unenhanced condition . A nice saw perhaps to own but keeping in mind like all old classics repairs if needed might be quite costly .
  6. Too bad you don't have Baileys logging supply in the UK . With them and a few others we on this side of the pond don't have to take what the saw shops try to force on us .
  7. New ones,I just run. When they need filed ,I file them . Usually free hand but every so often I use an Oregon file guide to make sure things are nice and true . It's an acquired skill. Some catch on fast, some do not, some never do .
  8. That's the same saw I use it on except my 200T is shall we say a tad bit "enhanced " . For that matter I don't use so called safety chain on anything .
  9. I use some number of Carlton non safety semi chisel .I don't remember the number of it .
  10. Mufflers and the like can be altered as far a duel ports etc . . The older 066's ran like scalded apes . You didn't have to do a thing to them unless you wanted to . IMHO opinion the 066 ranked right up a par with the 038 Mag . It must have been a good one because it pretty much set the standard .As I said before the newer Ms 660 leaves a lot to be desired as compaired to the old stand by 066 . Kind of sad on this side of the big pond what the EPA has mandated for our saws .
  11. I don't have a clue as I thought they were all 70 cc saws . Some Stihl models the word magnum meant something and on some it was just an advertising ploy . For example I don't think there is one bit of diff in an 066 and the mag model except the name plate . I will say this though a new MS 660 Mag will not in any way even attempt to keep up with a good old 066 . It might it the UK but here we get plagued by the EPA regulations . Slower saws that cost more money, makes sense to me .
  12. They get louder but they aren't that bad if you wear ear plugs . I can't speak for a 192 because I've never even seen one . I have a MS 200t that I ported ,not just a polish job and it will scoot . Fact is on 8" cants it made the two cuts in a bit over 11 seconds where as the stock ones were at around 15 . Another,an 038 mag made 3 cuts in 10" cants faster than both a Stihl 066 plus a Huskey 2100 .However modified saws are not everbodies cup of tea,so to speak . You either like them or you do not .
  13. Onan made a real good dependable opposed twin which was used on welders etc .I have no idea if they still do or not . Very interesting ignition .It used a twin battery coil like the old Harleys . I have no idea if Kohler is made any where other than Kohler Wisc ,US of A .They used to be considered one of the better air cooled small engines .Real expensive however for repair parts but I suppose about everything is . Lots of small engines a person could choose from .Kawasaki makes them, many others .
  14. Say,I got to thinking about those valve guides on some Briggs engines .Now believe it or not those were lubricated by the oil mist vapor of the crankcase via the vacuum tube going from the valve cover to the manifold . Sounds kind of stupid but this method was used by machine tool builders which made high speed metal working machinery for the automotive industy . Two companies that come to mind are Cross and Lamb who built such stuff in both the US plus the UK .
  15. Briggs did make some cheap POS's . Some of them were pretty tough though . When they were all cast iron they lasted forever almost .The I/C engines will stand up but as I said the opposed twins had their own problems . One other problem you can find on the opposed engines is them tossing the steel valve inserts if they get over heated . A simple fix . You just pound the insert back in place then go around the insert with a center punch to deform the aluminum then peen around the edges .Good as new . Of course a dealer will try to sell you a new engine .You have to remember they are in business to make money .
  16. Interesting,I never seen a B and S that didn't get oil to the guides .Evidently they must be built differently on that side of the Atlantic . Honda is a better engine as much as it pains me to say that .However an IC Briggs will last a long time with proper maintainance . There is problem with the twin cylinder opposed models though .The oil slinger is on the left side of the engine .If on a mower and tilted to the right over about 15 or so degrees they wont sling oil .The rods tie up and the engine comes apart like a dollar watch . I just replaced one that happened to about a week ago as a matter of fact . In the US that style as well as any flat head engine no longer is made , as they are all overhead valve models now which have better oiling systems .
  17. I can't say much about the saw because I've never heard of one let alone even seen one . That said more times than not a restrictive muffler will hinder greatly the engines ability to produce power and speed . In this part of the world we just gut the mufflers and retune the carbs . Oh,if that thing has a fixed jet carb, that could be a problem also .

  19. That 075 could be just a tad rich .If it cleans up the rpm's when under load that likely could be the problem . The 075-076 if in good tune will pretty much keep up with anything made today if they are used as intended on large wood with long bars .
  20. A person has to nearly disassemble the polesaw to get it back together .Things have to be in alignment, clamps properly tightened etc . For reasons I can't explain it seems I can't post pictures at the moment .Otherwise I have pictures of a disassembled ST-75 .
  21. I don't know if this helps or not .You would need machine work to duplicate this process . The cylinder base is turned down to decrease the piston clearence thus raising the compression . The piston face was turned for a pop up type piston which does two things .First it improves the flow and secondly it keeps the ports in perspective while still maintaining compression . Exhaust port was widdened to around 65 percent of the cylinder bore .The intake was polished and opened up inside widder and towards the bottom of the cylinder internally . The transfers were not touched as they are huge for this model already . The windows in the piston were reworked to improve flow .The muffler has the screen and baffles removed .
  22. I just reworked one myself as a matter of fact ,domed piston ,19 thou head deck clearence ,reworked ports and of course the muffler .It turned out real well . Now then that pipe gizmo hanging out a muffler might look real spiffy but it's been proven is does nothing to enhance power .Makes them loud though . Another thing to bear in mind, don't take everything you read on a web forum that uses a green background as being the gospel truth because it's not .
  23. Ha ha ha,you've just never seen a good job then .
