  1. I have been running my business for a few years now and if you want to renew your machinery and trucks on a reasonably regular basis and if you employ others and do things properly, ie pay your vat, tax, proper insurances etc it will cost you at least that per day, probably more. But there are still those out there in our area who are content to work for as little as £250 a day for a team of 2 with truck and chipper:confused1:!!
  2. Both positions are now filled. Had a lot of enquiry's via Arbtalk so nice to know it helps put people together. Thank you to all those that took the time to reply.
  3. I have seen similar in the past when trees have been poisoned, I am going by what looks like stunted misshapen growth on the remaining leaves.
  4. It will be a very fair price to somebody who can deal with it efficiently, depends on several factors tho, if your interested PM me as I asked in the first post!
  5. Approx 40/50t, mainly Ash, Field Maple, Hawthorn, some Apple and Cherry. Also some conifer. Will need to self load but can be cut into hand ball lengths, rings. Available in next 3/4 weeks, all green and fresh felled. Please PM if interested.
  6. I was away last week on holiday so will be sorting through cv's etc this week so please send me your details.
  7. Hi, I have a Yew bow blank for sale, location Suffolk. PM me if you want more info.
  8. The course sounds ok to get you the tickets and basic knowledge but as you have already heard there is no substitute for expererience. As an employer I would pay you a bit more than somebody without any tickets and would also be much more inclined to take you on than a person with no tickets. However until you became more experienced which would probably take around a year I would treat you much the same as a trainee. That said all people are different and some take to this industry/job far more naturally than others. Also attitude and ability count as much as a set of tickets! I am not far from Otley and have taken people on from there in the past, PM me if you would like to chat more.
  9. They were all doing it back then. Lance Armstrong has actually been quite smart. There probably is evidence so rather than being found guilty he has walked away. He is powerful enough to say “do what you like, everyone knows I won 7 tours and if you want your sponsorship $ back then you’ll have to fight me for it in a long drawn out battle and if you win I have more than enough $ to pay, and by the way good luck with the hard evidence that is now over 10 years old” The frustration from the anti-doping agency is that Armstrong has not admitted guilt even though the court has ruled that failing to defend the charges is judged to be an admission of guilt – i.e. it ends in limbo. The doping agencies are jobsworths anyway, trying to make a name for themselves. They are not cleaning up cycling, to do that they need to set standards going forward, not messing about with the past. Scientific studies show that cycling is a lot cleaner than it used to be but there will always be abuse from those seeking “marginal gains” However you look at it his name will always be one that is associated with the Tour De France.

  12. We had one for 6+ years a cabstar 120, was reliable and a good workhorse, cab too narrrow for 3 blokes but good for narrow drives, pulled well, sold it on and its still working now up north. Top speed is not so good if you got a lot of motorway miles to do tho.
  13. 10 Minutes from Sudbury in Suffolk, near the Suffolk/Essex border. Can take wood and clean chip. Can pick up large timber to save cutting it up local to that (30miles) with timber wagon. Charges may apply for timber collection depending on what it is. PM me for more details.
  14. Only just seen this, nasty, big doses of vit c and e will help with the healing and honey on the wound once it begins to mend will reduce the scarring. Hope you continue to make a good recovery.

  16. How about this http://www.mawsley.com/home/Other-Equipment/Same-80-Explorer-II-Year-1989.html
  17. The bottom line is that it will go for biomass, Thetford power station is not too far away. It is nice clean stems tho and I thought I would try to explore all other avenues first. As mentioned I am getting a lot of it so want to try to find the best market I can for it. I got another dozen reasonable sized ones coming down in Jan and would like to find a home for them also.
  18. There will be a least an artic load of 6/8" out of these trees, we would normally chip or burn up to 10" but if you could use it then we it may be worth talking.
  19. I am based near Sudbury in Suffolk. The Poplars to be felled are near Halstead in Essex. At the moment they are looking to do the job next summer but if I get someone interested I can bring that forward but it will need to be drier than it is now to get it to roadside.
  20. Probably not Dave, it is just that round here nobody wants it. I know people who burn Poplar succesfully, and in South France it is used in buildings. We milled some of it up a few years ago into railway sleeper sized beams to slot into steel girders for one of the woodchip pens. That has worked well.
