  1. Mines on stepped pulleys it only takes 10seconds to change it up a gear, maybe later down the line i'll upgrade but at the mo it does the job well. I would get a decent chuck and tools over been quicker to change gear.
  2. Here's the finished goblet, finish is bees wax and carnuba wax mixed with linseed oil.
  3. these are the jaws i have, should work.
  4. I've just brought something simular to that with 8 pegs it should work i think will give it ago sometime cheers.
  5. Spot on mate:cool1:, How long you been turning for and how did you do the yellow bowl. I haven't been doing it long myself still a beginner
  6. When i first started i would mount them on a face plate with about 6 small screws holding it, then turn it in one piece and sand the bottom by hand (it does leave small holes). As i got use to the tools and more confident i brought the chuck, now you can start on the face plate or between centers roughly turn the outside of the bowl making a spigot to fit into your chuck then you can turn the bowl around fit it in chuck and turn rest of bowl. My first bowl took me 3hrs at least, I started off doing mushrooms when got hang of that moved on to bowls. Keep tools sharp and make sure there the write ones for the job just enjoy.
  7. I get them roughly to size with a chainsaw then turn on lathe or I've got a small bandsaw that does the smaller stuff. Saw mill will be ok but dont know what they would charge???.
  8. I think Dean can advise you on how not to tip it as well:001_tongue:
  9. Afew more pics, The two bowls are made out of cherry and the bottom of the bowls still have bark left on.
  10. Here's some pics ofmy wood lathe and work in progress and other bits. The bowl is out of oak and the small goblet is out of apple on the goblet the neck is going to be half the size and if you hold it to the light you can see through it. My lathe is a myford ML8 got it from ebay £80 (bargin) now there going between £150-£200. I've got a Robert sorby patriot chuck, with 1" pin jaws, Bowl reversing jaws and 2-3" jaws. IMO the chisel quality goes in this order Henry Taylor, ashley iles, robert sorby, Hamlet, Crown, etc etc. Its best to start on a soft wood start doing a spindle, when you have mastered the finish on that your half way there. The book is a good reference and starter book. I will turn any wood wet yes it does destort and sometimes crack but some people love it ive sold quite afew. I'll See if i can find pics
  11. As above but sometimes i would strap it to incase it splits.
  12. Try posting it on landscaper talk they should have more knowledge on plants:001_smile:
  13. I have a 160gb external harddrive western digital, I've had it about 2 years and no problems yet i back up everything on my laptop on it. I brought it second hand as well for about £30.

  15. £300 not that small surely, I best get turning then:001_smile:
  16. It would be nice to have a choice, 90% of the time was climbing without a trained person in anything and had to self rescue myself. Luckly i don't work for that company now.
  17. :001_tt1: I would have to agree there
  18. Diveristy will win, I to have gone to the dark side wife watches it all:thumbdown:
  19. John, I can't emagine what you going threw with your kids, but a few weeks ago i done simular but with a hot cup of coffee smashing cup against my head my rage and anger was terrible. I suppose to me i perfered to hurt myself instead of releasing the anger on someone else, after i calmed down and looked in the mirror i had to laugh (had a big egg lump on head). Regarding help mate its hard everyone is different tablets didnt work for me it made me numb to everything i was dribbling and everything, saw a shrink and that just made me angry though the questions were a waste of time, Shrink decided CBT wouldn't work so they just doubled my dose. I find it easier to speak to people on here than face to face, Take it easy mate don't let things get to you(easyier said than done i know). Looks like you have 2 lovely kids there John get your strenght from them to keep going, take care and look after youself.
  20. One bowl would go for that (£60), made your money back then.
  21. The 20th june sounds good to me, how about everyone else
  22. The windows on my place have a catch that you can turn the window the other way around so you clean from inside the house. You can also buy a special glass that the dirt sits ontop of the glass and when it rains you have perfectly clean windows.
  23. Don't know if i've posted in the right place but what is this and what causes it
  24. Got rid of nauton and now got AGV 8.5 its free, I always back up onto an external hardrive and then do a system restore i did have one virus with nauton that would only let me start up in safe mode and did an online talk with them and was wasting my time useless. Done a virus check with agv and it found 3 trojan horses and about 20 trackers and nauton was ment to be protecting me????
  25. Congrats to both of you and young Skye. It's the best feeling in the world when your the young ones born.
