  3. There is some complete and utter shite on there, but there's also some really good stuff, I don't tend to watch TV, I just watch shows that I like the look of online. You'd think that good media would get picked up but that's just not the case a lot of the time. My mate does a radio show and he's kickstarted the careers of some big names, there's no way that they would have got there without his intervention and help.
  4. Fair enough, it's fair to say that it's not being subsidised in any way though. Independent media companies, even those with 'decent' content, won't get noticed by the big players without exposure from things like Film 4, when they get noticed then Netflix etc snaps them up; in a similar vein, that's why local radio like BBC introducing is so important in promoting new bands.
  5. Film 4 have commissioned some cracking films. You're missing the point though, all this libtard, fringe, oddball viewing actually generates money for the public purse, not the other way round.
  6. Good for her.
  7. Fair enough. Do you think that we should sell channel 4? We, the public, own Channel 4. And this sell-off isn’t a done deal | Armando Iannucci | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Why is the government intent on ruining our world-leading TV industry, asks Royal Television Society vice-president...
  8. The point is that Channel 4 generate enough money to pay for these things. In terms of government funding and support initiatives, do you think they stop funding sports too?

  10. I find much of UK politics truly baffling.
  11. Yes Channel 4 is self funding, they buy/commission tv shows and films from independent media companies, if channel 4 was to go then these independent companies will lose a large chunk of their revenue, hence the anticipated loss of 2,400 jobs and 60 companies. Life would be pretty dull without art: no music, no films, no painting, no photography, no architecture, no design... Art enriches us all culturally, whether you like it or not.
  12. Council bloke should just but a fleet of MEWPS for his aging arbs. What would likely happen though is they'd buy them, then sell them off, then rehire them from the person they sold them .
  13. That sucks mate.
  14. Jamie Driscoll, North of Tyne Mayor: Channel 4 has been responsible for the production of some great programming including the Paralympics, Film4 and the recent highly acclaimed It’s a Sin. The Government’s argument that it needs to be privatised to allow it to compete with Netflix, Amazon and Apple makes no sense. It’s a public service broadcaster that operates in a completely different way. It’s owned by us, the British public, is already self funding and doesn’t cost the tax payer a penny. Public opinion is against privatising it, Channel 4 is against it, the Labour Party is against it and so are many Conservative MPs. The Government needs to rethink their proposal. #Channel4NotForSale
  15. It doesn't really look to me like there is a green agenda in England. They say what they think will win them money (votes).
