  1. Sounds like a nightmare mate. The ever changing IR35 scenario is a minefield. It sucks that they still shaft you even when you've played by their rules. I was close to being in a similar boat, but have managed (so far) to avoid a whirlpool. Things are going to improve on the tree surveying side when they get round to reading the new Environment Bill. I hope things work out favourably for you with 'The Rev'.
  2. Lying politicians in general.
  3. I give a shit. I'm not bothered what colour flag they fly, they're taking us for a ride and should be held to account. You're frequently banging on about how bad the SNP are. Here's an opportunity to hold a bunch of incompetents responsible for their failings.
  4. The judgment is in - Good Law Project GOODLAWPROJECT.ORG The High Court has ruled “The Secretary of State acted unlawfully by failing to comply with the Transparency Policy”...

  6. If possible, change the spec to metres and ask council to accept it as an amendment to original notification.

  8. If it's any consolation, Stella is 4.6% now.
  9. I reckon that wrist size should be a minimum unless you have experience of how different trees react. Upper-arm size is a good target, you can refine it from there.
  10. £150 - 200 for a climber, £100 -150 for a decent groundie and £80 -100 for a dragger of brash. Job and knock.

    Covid-19

All true. I too am uncomfortable with the speed with which they've all been developed. There's a lot of info available out there explaining how they are safe though. I've not studied any of it in depth but the gist of it is that development/testing/approval processes have all been done in parallel due to the urgency and thus extra funding available. Normally all those processes would be done in series. I'm sure some will ask for further proof but that's enough for me to decide that on balance it's better for me to take a small risk with the vaccine rather than a bigger risk from the virus. I can understand scepticism due to the speed these vaccines have been developed. You have to remember though, that it's 2021 and science and computing power is way ahead of where it used to be.

Aye. £500.00-ish for a bog standard ltd company who hire in subbies. £750.00-ish for VAT returns and payroll. Payroll is priced on a per-person basis. That's the going rate.

Aye, I was a raging alcoholic at the time, was living in a freezing cottage in Northumberland.

She's hard work but worth it. You should get one. Accounts are a bout a quid a day as a sole trader, about two quid a day for limited company.
  18. Soil heave is only a consideration when the tree predates the structure(s), and there was a pre-existing soil moisture deficit. If the tree is older than all the buildings on site and you're on clay, it would be prudent to get some site investigations done to determine heave potential. Should you wish to deck it.

Haha, stop being a fanny. I doubt anyone on this site doesn't strive to save money where they can. Show some respect for the rest of the world outside yer wee Andy bubble.

Someone is always going to have to pay for things. It's my experience that the more you invest in something, the more you get out. I worked hard to get where I'm at and I'm proud of that. Tuition fees are a burden but education and knowledge should never be exclusive to the rich.
