  1. i've got the carbons and have not much planned for weds if that fits. I'm about 3 miles from Ed's place
  2. Rob, I bought a set off arbtalk just before new year and they are seriously comfy. You need to make sure you get the right size as they are not adjustable. Ask the seller if they are marked S, M or L then check jonesies site (or others!!) under the geckos for the leg measurements vs size chart. Kev
  3. You can shoot the pigeon leaving or returning to the nest (i.e. in flight)provided you follow the BASC pest species guidelines and have permission to shoot the land but cannot disturb it on the nest.
  4. you digging a flight pond for next season?
  5. Absolutely useless for £50. Get some big chunky noisy things
  6. 12 months old this thread and you have still got Lewis Hamiltons cast off tyres on the landie. Put your hand in your pocket and buy some new treads Ed's tree services - free ploughing with every removal, whether you want it or not!!
  7. Ask Dean Lofthouse on here, he has had one for a couple of years now
  8. You don't have to shoot someone to lose your license. Any form of assault, abh, gbh, threatening behaviour, etc could lead to the license being revoked
  9. Justin stocks them. He also does canary bills for the southern market:001_tt2:
  10. Saturn are cold calling (and sending letters saying we see you don't shop with us) at the minute, quoting £4.75 per blade inc vat with free return postage. They are promoting a new arb shop too but are too willing to slate other suppliers when they ask who do you buy from now. I was told one of the major suppliers/sponsors of this forum is a rip off!! That must be why I get 90% of my stuff from them due to their price and customer service. Not the way to run a business IMHO They are only 1/2 an hour from me but I am not sure they will be getting much trade from me. I will stick to dealing with the bloody southerners!!
  11. no problems with mine which I use as a chipper saw and have the powersharp set up on it for stumping those really awkward or filthy conifers. Not the most powerful thing in the world but better than anything b&q can offer at the same sort of money. Keep it sharp and understand it isn't a 260 and you will be fine
  12. Which one is called betty? What do you call the other one? Why are betty and the nameless one sat on the loader doing nothing?
  13. Do a search, there are about a dozen threads about the carbon spikes on here
  14. Editted for accuracy In my opinion having kids is not a right, you should have the means to raise the children you decide to have. Stopping the outrageous amount paid out in child benefit would make some of the spongers think long and hard about having kids. The british are averaging just under 2 kids per couple at the minute, this is down on 20 years ago. The population problem at the minute is immigration and the number of kids non british nationals are having.
  15. How is it a big can of worms. If you earn money over and above your salary you need to pay tax on it, if the amount you earn is over the NI threshold you pay that aswell. Simple

I also used a 16" on an MS230 but the paperwork states a 15" max, I assume it is at the descretion of the tutor/assessor. Turning up with a 440 with 20" bar might not go down too well, plus you have to sharpen it so the shorter the bar the quicker the sharpen!!

A bit big for the 30/31 but at the right price it will do the job and serve you well in years to come. You will need a bar max 15" long for the course though so budget for that as well.
  18. They will proably be multistemmed because they have 'died' before. As has been said cut them down to good 'wood' or within a few inch of the ground if you prefer and let them go again. You will get multistems.
  19. Up until 2 years ago I was employed PAYE and running the tree co as a side line. I had to fill in a tax return each year and pay tax on the profit, even when that profit was only £3-4k. You are allowed approx £5k in your second income without having to pay extra NI (class 2) by obtaining a low earnings exemption certificate, this does not apply to tax. If it did I would be running a conifer cutting company declaring about £6.5k profit a year and running a sideline tree cutting co at £5k a year - no tax to pay, a log company at £5k a year - no tax to pay, etc, etc. Your tax return takes into account the tax you pay on PAYE and you can have your tax code on your PAYE altered to pay the tax owed for your second income from your first but you do have to pay the tax - this is from my accountant. If you can prove otherwise by providing a link to the information on the HMRC website I will bow to your superior knowledge, sack my accountant and start a few new businesses!!
  20. Everything is not sorted from your other job, if you are selling firewood you should be filling in a tax return each year and paying tax and NI on your profits. A good amount to make each week is £1,000,000 but that is quite hard, especially from firewood. If £50 a week means a lot to you then that is a good amount.
  21. Nick is also an expert at pushing land rovers - ask Armchairarborist!!!
  22. Fill your boots from March to October and put enough money away so that ANY work during November to February is pure profit. I pay myself a salary from the tree account to personal account every month and only spend the contents of the tree account on diesel, spares and other tree stuff (makes accounting nice and easy too). Come October the account is nicely flush and means if I dont want to work for 4 months then I dont have to and i will still get a monthly wage, anything I do make during that time could be either pee'd up the wall, paid to me as a bonus or spent on new kit over and above the budgeted stuff. Always plan for the worst, I always budget for a few rained off days a month and a seriously quiet winter, that way if you work every day in a month you will be up and if winter is still busy you will be flush in the spring. Last January I did about £500 worth of work due to the snow which just covered expenses so without the saving I would have been living on fresh air. This year has seen £3k already this month, all profit due to saving in the summer. If this carries on it will be new car in the summer. Plan properly and you don't need to be searching around for ways to make money in the winter doing things you don't really want to do.
  23. the weight difference will be roughly the same as the difference between a fully fueled 200 and a nearly empty one, can you tell the difference???
