    what stihl

Stating the available budget for a replacement saw may effect the answer, also do you maintain the saw or is it dealer only repaired/serviced?

  7. Use 50mm sq welding cable minimum, a fuse would be an advantage if there a chance of it being cut/short circuited.

    Tachometer

I can now recommend the Fast-Tach, my small saw now sounds like demented bee again and its cutting a lot faster.......

    Tachometer

And they know how to charge for that at Stihl.......

    Tachometer

You'd better add me to that list as well, I've been looking for a Tach for ages. I e-mailed Tiny-Tach last night at 10-30pm asking for an agents address in the UK, recieved a return email from them at 7-18 am this morning with a price. If I confirmed the order by email, the tach will be sent out today, with an invoice for payment on delivery. Now that's service and my tach is in the post (recorded delivery). Sorted and I owe another beer......
  11. I agree if the trailer is loaded correctly and the brakes are working properly, but a 110 will be more stable than a 90 always provided both are fully maintained. Advice was being asked for reguarding trailer length/type, the model/wheelbase of the towing vehicle was not stated at time of post apart from Land Rover.
  12. A trailer with a plated weight of 3.5 tonnes is not a problem for a LR, a 110 will be more stable than a 90 under braking (less chance of the tail wagging the dog). An Ifor Williams 3 axle trailer would be my choice of trailer but as for loading it, maybe a small electric type hiab possibly, its the extra weight of the liting equipment that will kill the carrying capacity and a 4/5 metre bed shouldn't be a problem . As mentioned above keep the revs up by using lower gears on hills (up and down), keep a fully serviced vehicle and adjust your driving style to suit a heavily loaded towing combination. A landy will tow far more than its plated weight...
  13. These were always .good a few years ago, I haven't dealt with them for a while now but worth a call. http://www.foleyspecialistvehicles.co.uk/index2.htm

    Pecontools!

Just out of interest what was the hydraulic fault?
  15. Hi all, just a word of advice, most small electric magic carpets are only approved for indoor use only, ie 0 mph/kms wind speed, plus some machines tilt sensor will only allow it to work within 1.5 degrees of a level surface. Not to say that they aren't used out side, but if theres an accident HSE don't like it. Wind speed is normally on the machines ID plate.
  16. Dont worry they made a few green backs last night, their funds will be low after thirty years. There will be a few more gigs, just save up.
  17. Pirtek Hydraulics are distributors also try searching for "Teng" on ebay.
  18. This is the order in which I rate the manufactuers. JLG: are the best built machines, smooth operation (possibly the RR of machines), access to their web site for service info is resticted. Parts available next day usually. Genie: well built machines but cutting back on build quality (the 135/70 could be a great machine for large tree work). Towable lifts are good valve and well desgined. All parts/service manuals available on the web site. Parts available next day usually. Nifftylift: some of their range are well suited to tree work on rough ground (wheeled 4wd 170SD and 210SD with leveling arms), the new self powered HR17 & 21's are good machines. I've not had anything to do with their tracked machine so unable to comment. Service support by phone not to bad, helpful techs depending on who you get. Some parts can take time to recieve. Oil & Steel: Good machines for the owner operator who will look after them, not regarded as a strong Hire Fleet Machine (the electronic control boards can cause problems if the battery is allowed to be in a low state of charge, battery is not charged by the engine!). Parts supply can be a long wait. Note: Some of their small vehicle mounted booms when fitted (depending on the chassis) exceed the 3.5 tonne gvw. Teupen: seem good machines from what other service engineers say, not as yet had any reason to work on them. Haulotte: They're french, very little tech back up in the UK. Just had a boom machine repaired with an electronic problem, had to get a guy over from france and he only spoke french. We also have a few 60ft booms based on 360 tracked chassis (japanise built) not the fastest machine but will go anywhere mostly..
  19. I believe Roller has a Dolmar can't remember if its a 7900 or a smaller one?
  20. I have an IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) Powered Access Licence, classes Operator and Demonstrator. Ok its not issued by NPTC/LANTRA but it is a recognised international mewp operating cert. Why should I be required to take another operators course (LANTRA/NPTc) just to qualify for chainsaw in a mewp cert, if I decided to take the course. I'm just trying to point out the requirement by some training bodies to use only their training courses.
  21. Copied directly from Capel Manor Web Site. Level 2: Certificate of competence in the safe use and operation of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPS) This course will specifically address the use and operation of MEWPS for Branch removal and tree pruning. Duration: 2 days (pre-requisite cs 30,31) Maximum number of candidates: 6 Courses are arranged on an ad hoc basis only. Contact us for details. Training price: £580 NPTC Registration and Assessment price: £105 TOTAL PRICE: £685 Operate a chainsaw from a mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) This unit covers the use of a chainsaw from a MEWP. Duration: 1 day (pre-requisite cs 30,31 and Level 2: Certificate of competence in MEWPS) Maximum number of candidates: 6 Courses are arranged on an ad hoc basis only. Contact us for details. Training price: £220 NPTC Registration and Assessment price: £105 TOTAL PRICE: £325 No mention of an alternative qualification (I even asked them at their arb show this year), also I believe our mewp training costs are about £300-00 incl cert for a one day course, a bit different from... Training price: £580 NPTC Registration and Assessment price: £105 TOTAL PRICE: £685 Then your operating a chainsaw from/in a mewp. I know cs 30, 31 are required but it seems like lets think of a way to make money. Ok your talking about cutting n dropping branches, not a lot different from steel demo from a mewp with a gas axe.
