  1. christ i duno what im typin its a lock jack sorry guys harsh week and too long in the pub on fridayand sat!well only escape from the missis!ive been issued with a harsh warning abour my net visits to te tree sites but she dont seem to get it......that i like and need these places to chill the f*ck out inbetween writing reports quotes and invoices and all the other crap that keeeps her in shoppin money
  2. all due respects guys but why over complicate things simple bow line or timber hitch does me
  3. Im pretty happy climbing on any of them evan the ally wedge! Im trying to get as fast on ascending on the vt as i am body thrusting on a prussik...the prussiks down fall for me is some times it slips or it bites up completly when i really dont want it to,never a problem with the vt. I used my works mate prussik set up the other day first time id used that set up in ages could not work out why it works so well...A becouse i used it for 10 years or B it is a good set up. The ally wedge is good for ascending can be a bit too fast desending if your not carefull and you have to use a climbing style very simular to climbing on a vt but i just cant get my head around not having a knot in front of me,still picking up tricks when i use it........dont really have the patients or time to try and retrain myself to really get the most out of it though. If some one learnt to climb on one they would benifit the most but i feel most or us old boys who are too used to hitches its a bit of a head f~~k
  4. looks alot bulkier , never used it either done a lot of cobra though doin some next week. from what i can see the guardian looks like it would make a better storm anchore brace as its set up in there promo photo on that page as opposed to a support brace wich is what i usually use the cobra for...ive worried in the past that some cobra would not be beefy enough to support a great sudden weight.
  5. I surely hope you would be compansated if you could not work any way.......there was billions of pounds in comp paid out last time. The dude who my dad brought his small holding off managed to renovate his house of it.........but then he also lost all his sheep generations of hard work had a mental break down and smashed down all the stock sheads and his family where basically kept hostage on there farm for months....fu(kin sickening if this was let out by acident..but then i dont think it was no acident last time.....just another way to bring farming to its knees and turn the countryside in to a big adventure play ground and the banks and goverment to get there hands on more land...
  6. mat i hope things are ok for you so far...........thats a strange part of surrey, when i went to college down there loads of mates lived in caravans who where at studying arb at merrist wood some of them farms although they are in one of the richest parts of england seemed like they where stuck in the 40's...weird cattle set ups
  7. not good news.......do they keep live stock at your yard?if not i thought you would of been ok
  8. true........i remember the first time i went up on the ball the operator took me to max height first thing in about 5 seconds...scared the crap out of me for a minute but then made the rest of the job was easy as there was nothing to be scared of!. the last crane job i did the operator said it was ok but i had to use a sling with a karibiner as i could not anchor straight off the ball hook.sure thats not legal either but who cares its good fun!
  9. nice pics reg, like the one ridin the ball!
  10. thats harsh reminder to us all ,my thoughts out to his family and friends
  11. When i worked for my old man we once spent weeks on this one house that had gardens desighned by cabability brown acres of garden many trees most in a right crappy state covered in ivey half dead fit for felling. The last tree of the day was a big pear tree full of ivey that i was told to dismantle about 3 metres away from a wooden clad bulilding that had just been renovated,it was a scorcher of a day so i think bollocks im just gonna drop it snead it and the mogs chipper will handle that ivey nicely. stupidly with no wedges pull off rope or felling lever becouse if i go and get them my old man will know im planning to drop it. gob it up put in the back cut and the wind picks up tree sits back and starts cracking off the hinge I realise suddenly that this tree is a lot bigger than i first thought so im standind there with my back in to it against the tree for what seemed like a long time screamin for some one to help..my grandad at the time was helping out driving timber back to the yard...he has spent his life growing up around the military so speaks perfect queens english and was never in a rush to do any thing, imagine wilson from dads army... he bowls round the corner and so im screaming and swearing at him to quickly get me some wedges and a pull off rope becouse i can feel this tree cracking And i dont think i can hold it from destroying this wooden building. from the other end of the site the other lads are loading up timber and can see my grandad running around the corner so they know somthing is wrong when he gets over he stops gets his breath back and says in perfect english " i say does one know where one can find a wedge" they get the jist of what ive done come over and throw line pull off rope on the 4x4 and evan then it took some pulling.......i got a proper bollocking but my dad said it was worth it to see my grandad in panic mode and hear him ask for a wedge.
  12. left wrist and right elbow are my weakness.....down to much cuttin and holding and chucking especially in leylandii hedges. top tip munky ill be keepin my moto x goggles in the truck.

    Morals.

I give 2 quotes one for what i think should be done say 30% reduction at most then the other trebled or quadroupled in price for the butchery that the customer wants...add some shigo photo copys or ive used articles from arb mags and then my opiniom on why it should not be done like so........ Ive found you will either get the job done your way or they wont come back at all wich is quite rare.

    ms200 pull start

if you wanna try a new casing ....well an old casing let me know mate

    ms200 pull start

you have a way with saws dont ya mate..wich mounting bit the one on the casing or the wheel it self.......i have had a few that where right b@stads and kept coming of the wheel u wind the cord around....the only answer is buy a new wheell and get a new spring they never seem to be quite the same after they pop out a few times,oh and dont over rap the spring 4-5 turns at the most. If you get stuck i got a spare side and case complete. 288 seems fine ,put the same chain after a clean up back on dropped and rung up the last big elm today the chain behaved it self fine...still time for a 395 though ,that saw just dont rev like the new huskys evan though it is very torqy
  16. not that i evan have the money to buy a processor but when my old man looked at buying one his main concern was the amount of wood that was wasted...that seemed to shatter and splinter and that he would have to buy in cord becouse all are wood waste was irregular sizes or rings i thought that would be a great idea to buy a processor....think he learnt that though the hard way when he took the hand guards off, made a foot lever to make the splitter faster then cut a finger off! all of his was done with logsplitters and saw bench he had an old boy cutting it up through the summer and during the fire wood season he was doing 6 a day on a good day 8-10 good money for waste but time consuming. I like the look of the self powered splitters see how much money i have left after paying the tax bill at the end of the month! otherwise it will be just another new splitting maul!
  17. I just got lucky and had a guy come up and ask me for work, but hes going back to oz in 5 months,he came over for some chipper saw and stump grinder training and his sisters wedding. hes doing a nc in arb in oz over the computer. Its great becouse hes paid for his own tickets so it covers my back wants the experience so works cheap and 100% harder than the other tards ive had lately when he goes ill be back to the local arb course collage and try and pick up another half decent new guy but ii doubt it! Taught him felling today and hes the only person to grasp the concept of hinges that ive shown straight away....ill get him in a harness pulling ivy off next week. Before that ive used untrained only problem is if they have an injury im worried about my insurancse not covering me for them not having nptcs or somthing
  18. I did a few last year by hand but splitting 1 transit load brings out my wrst and tennis elbow and back in pain for a week or so and aint worth it if i got to climb the next day....
  19. thats a quality vehicle we got in the garden....to good to cut up any way. nextdoor has a couple of old series on his farm.and an old log splitter!
  20. i was thinking about getting in to a bit of fire wood......giving away decent hardwood to my competators so they can make a profit probably aint doing me favours also somthing to do on rainy days would be nice when i looked at tractors in the farm trader i had a shock they want 2500 for a shitty old x reg leyland and that was probably the cheapest tractor in there. any ideas about what would be a cheap set up with still a bit of power i was thinking about trying to put an old pto hydrolic take off say on a old rotten series land rover rear prop and using that as a take off or any of the electric or self powered og splitters any good?
  21. I must admit when i first tryed them on i thought id made the biggest mistake buying them......they felt like i could not walk properly and they gave me pretty bad blisters for a couple of weeks and the soles damaged soft bark untill they had worn in a bit.....but i wear them every day at work...fishing... walking and they feel great and they seem indestructable
  22. yeah id go for the klimas as the best boots ive used only problem is they last far too long i cant justify buying a new pair as theres nothing wrong with them apart from they really stink .....any one got any good cures for smelly saw boots???ive worn them nearly every day for over a year and evan the inside soles are still perect... I used to quite like the jalforests sas boots but they lost there shape and fell apart quick...i didnt mind the eltens much either they just looked a bit gay.
