  1. What? £1.86 an egg?! We're thinking about getting some hens to help keep us in regular supply (although I am sure the local shop may be easier and cheaper in actual fact - just less fun).
  2. Good point actually - I have had a skim through the SSM handbook and it doesn't look like rocket science. I probably can't justify the cost of 'training' for this.
  3. I'd approach an ecologist and get them to do it! It might lead to a good mutually beneficial working relationship as in my experience ecologists are often asked for tree reports which they often don't know how to write! Where are you based - perhaps the forum could recommend someone in your area.
  4. I'd be interested in this too if the cost is reasonable for a day.
  5. To be fair, on LA contracts where thousands of trees are being inspected and worked on, a detailed work specification is unfeasible. I also worked on contracts where 'general prune' was one of the common instructions. Actually, this can be ok as long as the scope of a 'general prune' is defined somewhere so everyone knows what it does (and doesn't!) mean. On LA contracts you could simply use codes for each job, which are referenced in a tree works specification manual...
  6. Can't find a notification (yet) but here's the conservation area appraisal which specifically mentions the tree at the bottom of page 5! http://www.dorsetforyou.com/media/pdf/d/s/SPG09_Pamphill_Conservation_Area.pdf
  7. I wonder if the tree was subject to a TPO or in a Conservation Area? Perhaps a TPO was unlikely if the tree was assumed to be under good management. Either way, I can't find an app or notification on East Dorset's website.
  8. Once again, I can't find the NT's 'published' document about this tree felling. The only thing I can find is their facebook page announcing the work:
  9. I cannot find the YouTube video that the National Trust released about this tree - Jeremy refers to it in his video and recommends watching it. Has anyone else seen it? Have a link?
  10. Hmm, I can't work out how to embed the video...
  11. Here's an interesting addition to the discussion! Jeremy Barrell on site...
  12. Been feeling good until today. Just been rowing training and ran out of energy big time. Wondering if I need some carbs.
  13. Can you imagine writing a BS5837 report suggesting that in the UK?! I don't reckon most tree officers would go for that. It is cool though!
  14. I'm hungry ALOT trying this new regime. My stomach is crying out for some stodge... Maybe it's just the necessary post-Christmas contraction of my gorged gut.
  15. Day 3 for me and I'm feeling ok - not had any of the 'withdrawal' symptoms described, but I have not given up coffee so perhaps I'm not doing it properly. Our meals have been tasty and just about filling enough - the main thing I can see myself struggling with is breakfast as I've eaten muesli (which I always considered to be healthy!) pretty much every day for the last 20 years. I'll keep going for a bit and see how I go - if it's too much of a pain in the neck I may just try going gluten free instead.
  16. I am, but don't offer tree works any more. Beechwood in Coventry were looking for staff recently too so may be worth a call. Good luck.
  17. Have you tried Theocus Arboriculture? He was looking for some extra hands recently.
  18. Could it be a cluster of Phellinus ignarius?
  19. I thought dairy wasn't allowed in the paleo diet? Just bought a recipe book about this yesterday so am going to start trying this out. I feel terrible after a couple of weeks of alcohol and bad food over Christmas...
  20. Just started this book - really good read so far.
  21. Nice site. I note you are advertising thermal imaging - is this something you still offer?
  22. Beechwood are looking for staff; there is a thread about it on here.
