  1. Ouch! But I get you! Let's not get carried away on the negatives of Christian history though (and there are lots sadly). Whether you have a faith or not, you have to concede that people of faith have been pivotal in history for good as well....Christians were the first to care for lepers which formed the basis of the worlds earliest hospitals, Christian philanthropists first offered the concept of 'social housing', championed women's rights, the abolition of the slave trade, more recently help run foodbanks..... Spirituality and faith are not scientific and in the context of our postmodern western minds are irrational! I certainly couldn't write a post here on arbtalk to convince you of the existence of God. But I do believe in my core....I'm sure that has a lot to do with my upbringing, but also due to my experience in prayer and meditation. Have a go - you've got nothing to lose!
  2. In relation to the OP, the Archbishop wrote a short blog to clarify what he meant in the media articles. Blog: Why arguing with God is not the same as not believing in… Personally I think it's healthy that he doubts sometimes and argues with God. Many people recently have pointed out that 'blind faith' is dangerous, as it causes people to act without thinking or questioning.
  3. Hi John, Sounds like a tricky situation, but this is something that can only be judged on site. It's not realistic for us as people that haven't seen the site, the risk assessment etc to tell you whether you're right or wrong. Have an open and frank discussion with your boss - if there's been a communication problem then they need the feedback.
  4. If you already have the tree data with coordinates etc, then EyeTree may be of help: Eye-TREE | AIT Spatial
  5. Like this one I saw in the woods last weekend!
  6. Thanks David - my mush looks pretty similar to some of your images. Do you say Hornbeam is a host from your own experience, as it's not listed in any texts I have. If so, what has the significance been in your experience? I'd expect Hornbeam to have a better resistance to the decay than Beech. In this case it's acting in tandem with Ganoderma, so the future doesn't look too bright for this one.
  7. This might be worth a look Tor: http://www.peartechnology.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/TreeMinder.pdf
  8. Hi Tor - try a quick search on here using the terms 'survey' or 'software' - should reveal a few threads. Otherwise ask any more specific questions here and I'm sure a few will contribute.
  9. Hi all, Would anyone like to offer an opinion on what this fungus may be? It was at the base of a Hornbeam, which also hosts a Ganoderma applantatum. My first impression was a Meripilus but it has gills rather than pores and I have never seen it on Hornbeam before. Perhaps Pleurotus? It was attached to the base between buttresses by a stalk, and I think has gills on the underside although it was so mushy it was hard to tell! By the way, the photos show it turned upside down! I stupidly didn't get a picture of the top!
  10. Not at all. Learn how to express yourself properly please TCD.
  11. I've seen something like that in a supplementary planning guidance document on a council website. Did you see it when trawling a LA website?
  12. I've got a young Lab x Springer that I'd like to train to go out on the odd shoot in the future - don't really know where to start though as I don't know anyone in the shooting fraternity!
  13. I'm afraid I may have deleted it! As has been shown above, there are several threads all about your full inbox so I ditched one. No offence meant.
  14. Hi Nick. There's a free open source CAD program called Draftsight that might do you if you already know how to use CAD. I believe TurboCad is also pretty cheap. However, for so few of these jobs would you be better off outsourcing the plans? I could do them for you if you like - send me a message if that would be of interest.
  15. I thought Persian Ironwood.
  16. Welcome to the forum - hope you enjoy it. Looks like you do some nice jobs!
  17. Sure. Not sure if I will see those particular trees again soon, but there's no shortage of stem bleeds on my travels. Will post back when I give a kit a try.
  18. Thanks Jon. I've not seen those - probably worth a try.
  19. Here are the same two trees, two years on. The exudate is now thick and gooey like black encrusted caramel. I have not seen exudates emerging in such a thick band shape around the stem. Any ideas?! I am thinking it must be a Phytophthora fungal problem.
  20. I looked at these but bought a Sonos instead. It's great.
  21. Thanks for the feedback Gary - glad you got home before work on Monday! I'll make sure not to run another event on the Friday before half term 😫 Give me a ring sometime and I'll talk you through my current setup and the costs involved.
  22. Calm down please boys. Discuss and debate the merits of saws, but leave out the accusations and personal digs please.
