  1. LOL:001_smile: Heres me doing the 'lord of all I survey' pose The ground guys bet me a pint I would'nt unclip my lines and stand on the top...
  2. You should NEVER EVER let someone tell you to drive an overloaded vehicle.
  3. Hard to get your job done when you've had the vehicles confiscated, and a your awaiting prosecution, loss of licence and huge fine from VOSA...
  4. Give Buzz a Pm about the trees. If you pay him a mobilisation fee, I'm sure he'll bring a massive chipper and an artic up to clear the lot. I'll give you a hand with the craning if you like.
  5. my man Huck is Phat. I'd cimb it. If all the bark was hanging off and it was about to fall in a gale, I'd still climb it. The more dangerous it is, the more alive I feel....
  6. If that happened over here, the company would be closed by HSE whilst under investigation, and the owner would be awaiting prosecution from the HSE and the power company. Over here you are not allowed to work within 9 meters of overheads without the permission of the Power co.
  7. yep, we had one of them too. Analogue rsignal too, used to go all crackly. Heres a picture of one of our early mobiles -
  8. Hehe. I pity any tree that Gets Ed, Pete or Peter near it - 'Just say when missus, I'll keep cutting till your happy'
  9. Sorry Tom, I came accros a little harsh then. I suspect thats an elm, probably dripping with sap, would arc between the two wet cut surfaces there. I bet the climber has one hell of a bad case of ArcEye..
  10. Interesting. I've often thought of doing that, but driving the chipper with a hydraulic motor. Must have had a very small payload on that cabstar though? Looks like a Gravely 395 / 944 behind the LDV, great little chipers them were...
  11. 1hour job = minimum 4hour charge. ever wonder why plumbers have a £100 callout charge?
  12. even windows moviemaker will give you about 20 save options, with the ability to compress it right down.
  13. Hey Mozza, why not leave Stab city and come and work in Snowdonia:001_tt1:
  14. The only time I ever do jobs like that is for 'mates' and neighbours. I would do that for £50 and filling up with tea, cake and beer.
  15. Ok guys, re read Mozza's post. He's an EXPERIENCED groundie, with climbing skills. That to me is worth £400 a week or £18k per annum, as he obviously wants to continue climbing, and will become a valuable asset.
  16. We played around with a hydraulic ram with 150 psi bleeding into the cylinder, but in all honesty - overkill again. A good set of springs work just as well.
  17. Jeez Tom, are you serious? Having the power shut off and getting a permit to work would strike me as a tad more sensible than worrying about a little fibre tear. As would wearing the correct PPE, and not siting the crane or working within the Proximity zone of high voltage cables... In the UK the above would have been mandatory before commencing the job, and required by any half decent risk assesment...
  18. this is a good one [ame] [/ame]
  19. Notice the effect on the camera.. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au1nJ-2zg0w&NR=1[/ame]
  20. I thought the same thing. Plus, an arc like that would play havoc with any camera's light reading capability. Everything else would be pitch black, or at least heavily shadowed..
  21. I'm thinking thats a photoshop job. Does'nt look real...
  22. the big top roller sandwiches stuff onto the bottom two rollers. Actually its totally overkill on a small chipper, but was interesting to do.
  23. Early prototype. 300mm wide by 200mm high, twin bottom rollers, single large top roller.
  24. Dont let Dean see that. He'll be round with his plumbline and laser level....
