  3. Ok, even putting this vid aside I'm still going to go for the 200. So where can I go and buy one? Anyone? Pointless thread IMO. The 200 is a dead icon. Move forward.

  5. It was the black stihl fuel filler I tried when I had a 540 on demo. They may have changed it on the released version though, not sure. Of course, the husky one will fit I'm sure, but it's a poor excuse for a none spill spout and will not work after a couple of months, so not worth considering IMO.

  9. I was working with a guy about a month ago who had a tdv6 in a 90 van. He bought it new in 2010 and got bored of the motor so had the transplant done by a specialist and chipped it, plus bigger cooler etc and it came out at 340bhp. It did blow two gearboxes in six months though:001_rolleyes:

  11. YES! At present I'm getting between 18 and 23 mpg from my td5. My V8 averages around 15. I do have a gas kit for the v8 but never even been a requirement tbh. That said, fitted it would way outpay a diesel. Then of course, there is THAT noise, must be worth sacrificing a few dinosours:thumbup:
  12. Haha! To be honest, I've been looking for a couple of years for a 3.9 with a good motor, but most seem to be 130-200k on the clock. The lower mileage ones get broken if they're rotten, and the motors with say 60-90k on them bring upto £600. As its going into my V8 110 station wagon, I wanted the ecu so thought it also better to get the whole truck, then I could pull the wiring out myself. Actually being able to drive the truck myself was a bonus too, instead of buying a "genuine low mileage good runner" that's sat on a pallet:sneaky2: I could go on about the merrits of the V8 vs the various 2.5 diesels, but I know you wont believe me!
  13. Ah, well not sure there'll be much on it then, it's S reg but a 3.9 V8 and just the ES model. Cloth seats, alloys, towbar etc all panels are good. The truck still has life left in it and possibly a shame to break it, but its low mileage for a V8 and they're getting hard to find now. Bare it in mind if you need anything though:thumbup1:

  15. As Quip says, its unlikely to be clutch. When pulling heavy its more likely to slip when setting off, not in a higher gear like down the motorway. I'd also discount the trailer as you're unlikely to smell something behind you, unless its a HUGE back wind! Lol! Your engine temp guage will only tell you water temp, not the temp of bits and bobs surrounding the motor. If its a 200tdi, its likely had a typical infestation of dribbles of oil here and there over the years, odd bits of plastic and rubber in the wrong places. Its more likely that giving a beasting down the road in this heat, its just burning unneeded stuff off! After all, its a landy. If its still running, there's nowt wrong with it. If something falls off, throw it in the back and carry on. If something sets on fire, throw some water on it, and carry on.
  16. Generally a standard one will last well mate, I've had them last near 100k including heavy towing. I think a bigger difference in clutch life can be made via driver sympathy.
  17. I have taken huge ones down in the past, just for the wood. Unfortunately, now due to the price of cord I often have to pay the client for the job.
  18. Pat, we are not in recession, that was years ago! This is the norm, its how its gonna be for years to come. Please, please, dont anyone think that by some miracle in a few months it will be how it was in 2006. Hence my comment about wising up, folk need to adjust or move on. Just the way it is.
  19. Wise up! If you're not happy with your rate, put it up! Inflation has been happening since the year dot. Might be harsh, but having a glass half full attitude will never move you forward.
  20. Ok, from what I gather there's no reason why it can't be opened up, just a case of working out what size the exit(s) of the muffler need to be. Should be a goer IMO. One thing that's not clear to me on these new type cans though, does anyone know if they have baffles? Drilling a hole straight through a 200 can is one thing, but on many other saws they have baffles shrowded over the inlet side of the can. So anyone know if these super thin cans have them, if not, opening up flow should be quite straight forward:confused1:
  21. I would assume you are using the metal ring and not the plastic one? Just for anyone else in the future, this is likely to be a very common mistake and possibly resulting in a few dropped saws; I'm not having a go about this, but why would you be deliberating between a 150 and a 540? Very, very different uses IMO. A bit like saying what saw should I go for between a MS261 and a MS461:confused1: Also just curious, but on these later(official released) saws, have husky over come this rather annoying issue? .
