  1. I once knew a builder who employed 2 gangs of brickies. He siad he would use one labourer to mix cement and he would wheelbarrow the mix to the 2 gang of brick layers. He said it was the only way to keep them all going and keep an eye on everything. Similar principal i think!
  2. Amazing Tommy, looking at the others i recon the judges had a hard time deciding. Well done. Will see you at the APF then.
  3. Oh, and i guess the lesson learned from this is, I shall now be pricing protected work, and asking for £100 to cover the application, later deductable from the works invoice.
  4. Got the word from the TO. Basically he said the permission has been granted to remove the tree, so even though it is in my customers name, they would not persue the owner if he got another contractor to carry out the works. The response i got was as i suspected, but the feeling i got from the TO was, they knew it was wrong but couldnt be bothered with the hastle. I shall now wait for the outcome of the "other quote" and take it from there. Somehow i think even if i still do the job, there will be a bit of bad atmosphere, but hey!
  5. I think you are a good example why top groundies are hard to find Jim. It seems to me, that if you are as good as you say Jim, your employers are taking the p**s somewhat. No wonder you are looking for other employment! The way i see it the groundy should always be in charge of the works on site, after all, he is the only man in contact with all parts of the job. He/she needs to tend every whim of the climber, yes, but on larger jobs a "head groundy" can deligate and deal with issues that arise during the works, speaking to customers, officials, members of the public, oversee traffic control etc, etc. All this as well as having rescue tickets, using machinery, saws etc. I am sorry, but any person who is capable of taking on such a massive responsibility as this, must be worth more than shelf stacking type wages, or they are going to walk from Arb!
  6. Nice one Mac:001_tt1: A few round here need that adding:sneaky2:
  7. My saturns still going no probs on my greenmech. Cant complain.
  8. Cheers for that Dean, i think if it comes to it, thats what i`ll do. I`m not that bothered about the money for the application, I just cannot stand being back worded! Lastnight I spoke to my Dad, who despit his age, has a very level head and quite a lot of experience in planning matters. He seems to think if permission is granted in a persons name, that person holds the permission and no one else can then apply for the same works. In this case the permission was addressed and given to my customer and only copies of that permission were sent to myself, the tree owner, parish council, etc, etc. Therefore, if the tree owner carries out works, they will be seen as unauthorised works. But, as Peter says, it would be very unlikely that any proceedings would be taken if that did happen. I will find out for definate on tuesday when i speak to the TO
  9. Yep, my customer is a sound bloke and has already said he will not pay towards another contractor doing the works. All interesting points of view, keep em coming....
  10. Another thought, as far as the finances go, how much does anyone think a reasonable invoice would be for time spent on the application? I did tell my customer that my time spent on the application is included in the price, but didnt specify how much. The price for removal was only £1200 without stump, so not as if I had lifted his leg anyway!
  11. Thats how i see it too Dave:thumbup1: I also will stand corrected if we are wrong, but the trouble is the permission came through the post saturday morning, and i am now considering giving the TO a bell for clarification, but that will be Tuesday! Hence why im asking all you guys. Oh, and the reason the owner got permission in writing is he is a neighbour of the applicant! East Riding Council do contact all "interested parties" when an application is put in.
  12. So, does the tree owner have the permission, or does he have to apply again in his name/his contractors name? The reason for asking is, a while back a similar thing happened on a pruning job and the TO told me I held the permission for the works, therefore anyone else working on the tree would be classed as unofficial.
  13. Yes, I get you now dean, i would happily bill the tree owner! As far as my customer is concerned, although he only agreed with the neighbour verbally, he has a contract with him!
  14. Unfortunately Dean, i didnt say anything about billing him for time on the application, but my customer is very sound and wouldnt like to do that to him. I think now the tree owner has got the permission, they want it doing on the cheap.
  15. Bit of a quandry, so wondered what you guys would do in this situation; My customer at No 23 wants TPO ash taken down after branch litter falling on his patio. The tree is in No25 garden. My customer consults with neighbour, who says "We`ve been trying to get that down for years! If your contractor can get permission we will go halves, go for it!" I then gained permission on grounds of safety(after much wrangling). Neighbour at No 25 gets notification, and now said he wants other quotes! My customer is a straight guy and said he would pay the full amount, but the tree owner said they would refuse access if i turn up without them getting another price. My main issue is, do i, (and my customer) have any right over the permission?
  16. Wish i had a pic of you graspin your tea bag, now that would have been a winner!
  17. That looks a nice beast, like you say, money pit! I dont think anyone can ever realise how much you can spend on a landy...... until they own one themselves! The cage looks interesting on your 90, i have to sort something for mine, but i dont think i`ll go external because of the soft top. I think it would be a pain getting the canvas under the cage but over the hoops! I also need something to anchor the rear seatbelts to.
  18. Cheers dean, i usually put my pics on an image host site to get the url then paste straight onto the prompt for images when posting. I seem to having trouble getting them onto the hosting site at the moment.
  19. The old girl is now on the road but I guess as always, lots still to do! Couple of the most visible bits to do are get the canvas altered to fit round the middle doors, then paint all the doors when i get some full size fronts. The fronts that are on at the moment are some i managed to pick up from a guy who i bought the rear tailgate from. They do the job for the moment, but do look a bit odd, especially with full size mid ones! I will post more pics........when i manage to!
  20. Wow! Just realised how long its been since i posted any pics of the V8. Trouble is im having trouble loading pics for some reason. Only managed to get this one up;
  21. There is one on a site I maintain Dean. I`ve never worked on it, so dont know much about them, but, this one is about 60 foot, with 40 foot spread:scared1: I recon thats a garden full for your customer:sneaky2:
  22. On a serious note, what difference does it really make if the lasses want time away from blokes, or likewise for the blokes? After all, its a bit like marriage, great together, but just for a change, a night out with the lads is great.
