  1. Oh, and yes, i am from the Northeast with ginger hair, even a very big belly, but when i finish climbing i always help the lads on the floor, even though it may mean sweating like a fat lad, but i will not profess to be any more than i am. I voted No on the poll also.
  2. Well said Tony, I was thinking of the word "Bully" though.

    bats!

Dont want to put a downer on the joining a group bit, BUT, I joined our local group nearly a year ago, and also tried to get into the Bat Conservation Trust, and offered my services (FREE) but was treated as if i was a murderer! One guy even said "Oh, a tree surgeon eh? I recon they are responsible for the national decline in numbers of bats over the last 30 years!" Although i will try my best to avoid any disturbance of any wildlife habitat, i will not get involved with any of the groups! Just my ten.
  4. Think it should say on the label somewhere about its "post mix life span" or "tank life". Sounds like Kerb could be on its way out then if FSC have banned it now. It was always great especially like said as a coctail with glyphosate:sad:
  5. Is Kerb not available any more Dean?
  6. Good question, theres no real definate answer as it depends how far open the outlet ends up, if you refit the deflector etc, but it could be as little as a quarter turn further out on the hi jet. The low jet may not need much adjustment. These are only estimates and really to get it right you need to reset the jets with the tacho, as a saw running too lean after being opened up will not last too long! Cheers, Pete.
  7. Many thanks Carl. You might find that you will need to use ear defenders, and even need to put more fuel in it, but as a result it will have more power. i.e. it will cut wood quicker:001_tongue:
  8. As some will know i have a 192t with a modded exhaust. After getting a request to show how it was done, here goes; This mod is just the exhaust that has been opened up, not the cleanest job but was done when the saw was new nearly 5 years ago, and has had very regular use since with no ill effects. First of all i removed the deflector screen behind the side panel, there is a spark arrestor beneath this, that went straight in the bin! Behind the spark screen is a recessed, rectangle shape with the exhaust hole in it. The back of the recessed part needs to be cut completely out, to look something like this; I did this by drilling as many holes as possible in the rear plate(approx 5-6mm drill), then filing the excess metal out with a 5/32" file. It is much safer to remove the exhaust prior to doing this to prevent dropping filings into the exhaust port. I did refit my deflector screen, but it can be left off if you accept the side cover of the saw may melt! Another option is to open the slot in the deflector slightly to allow more gas out, but here is mine standard fitted; Following this, you MUST re-set the jets on the carb. This is best done with the aid of a tacho to get it spot on. This is a quick and easy operation to do if you have a medium mechanical knowledge, but resetting jets is a MUST! Hope this helps anyone with a 192t(or back handle) who wants almost the same power as from a stock 200. Pete.
  9. But Lee, it may go against the grain having a builder taking 20% tax from you, but it doesnt mean you will pay any more tax at the end of the year.
  10. Just think of all the fun we could of had in his absence:sneaky2:
  11. Like you Andy, i used to have a card but it was some 7 or 8 years ago. Think it got binned years ago! One of the builders i was speaking to the other day said the new type does not expire now like the old ones. Could be worth getting the new one anyway, then we have it!
  12. Yeh, thats the man, d'you know him David?
  13. If it sounds anything like this one and he rolled past my house at 5.30AM i recon i would throw something at him!
  14. Not actually mine, but i`d love to buy it-could be a struggle! The old girl is two wheel drive, so just ribbed tyres to steer at front like a tractor.(no power steering:scared1:). Has single cylinder lister diesel motor. Uses near as much oil as fuel! It used to be hand crank but many years ago changed to electric start. Not sure about road use, it takes a bit of stopping!
  15. Heres a possible to join the fleet; Great old bus, its a Johnson Jotil, but it doesnt tip....................yet!
  16. Heres dedication for you, been back to the said tree and here it is in its full glory earlier today; Did lots of asking around, and finally found the head grounds man, a grey haired wierdy beardy sort, told me he planted it as a two year old sapling back in 1417. So by my reconing it must be around 594 years old:001_tongue:
  17. Guess to part with it, you`ll want two boxes of beer now then?
  18. If you`re going to throw it out, dare say i could add it to my collection for price of a few beers:001_tt1:
  19. I use a bit of half inch reinfoced, plastic water pipe. Like garden hose pipe.
  20. Cheers Dave, thats the type of thing im after. Was just a bit suprised at the comments from accountant. Will have to wait till next week to speak to tax man myself:sad: Anyone elses comments welcome.
  21. Ive had a few occasions of sub contracting to builders, and each time at the point of payment they ring up asking for my CIS number. After explaining that being in Arb/Forestry we are exempt from this taxation at source, and usually get paid ok. Upon doing works for another builder recently, the usual happened, and this spurred me to try and find some type of exemption form, or code that could be supplied to builders along with invoice to overcome this continuous problem. Upon speaking to my accountant, they say if we are carrying out tree works while building is being carried out, we do need a CIS card, so best to speak to the tax office in person to clarify the particulars! Always on a friday night eh! Anyone else heard anything else of this?
  22. Ok Md, still on my beginners course of ID`s so heres one i found last week in a very dark part of woodland at my dads(very rarely accessed). Fruit found on a large cherry, in a mainly beech woodland; Note the growth around the holly twig;
  23. Just a thought tuppy, did you get your vehicle ins from NFU? If you do have any other policies with them, they can tend to be very competative. Think they offer an occasional climbers policy that is a landscrapers polisy but gives you cover for a limited number of big trees per year. Worth asking but as been said in other threads, different offices say different things!
  24. I would say it didnt matter who felled it, they were very lucky it fell in the right direction looking at the cut hinge in Pic No 2:w00t: Given the potential failure of the tree, i bet you all needed clean pants after that:001_tt2:
  25. Good day was had by all, everything went to plan, got the job done in the day with no incidents, the client was happy, even earned some brownie points from the Environment Agency! Dont suppose you can get much better! Thanks to you Nige for all your input, just didnt realise Dave took so many pics! Did do some deliberating prior to carrying out the works, but all in all, due to various hazards on EA site and conditions of trees, decided on the MEWP.
