  1. Good work as usual Nathan, I just read the article on you guys in Essential Arb I thought it was a stand out piece.
  2. I don't see the issue, some amateur gardener cuts down an overgrown shrub. As for the PPE many professionals especially in the states do not wear half the stuff we do as the regulations do not require it, it doesn't make them any less competent or at risk.
  3. T540 or 201t both the same with strength and weaknesses to for the saw that you can get local at best price with good customer service.
  4. £130 with a saw plus extra for quantity of fuel used.
  5. I do have my own top handle this is the norm, although a few companies I work for do supply even these. Climbing kit is PPE. I don't feel I am required to provide anything else like ground saws, rigging kit, fuel and winches. I am just an ad hoc employee you employee when there is a higher work load, you have no obligation for providing holiday pay or ppe your kit is not my responsibility if it breaks down or fails unless I was being needlessly reckless with it, same with property.
  6. As the title says nothing special or interesting just a random montage of footage from work in Germany a while back. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFIZ4boztDY]Germany Tree Work - YouTube[/ame]
  7. Hows is the reallity that a self employed person should supply their own kit to do your work? I supply my own PPE and that's it if you want me to fell a tree your contracted to do i will use your kit its your job.
  8. I never really liked the 441 always felt like a rev hungry soft wood saw. The 460 now replaced by the 461 is an all round better saw, its also the build we had 2 441's both have fallen to bits and are no longer used, the 460/1's which are used and abused regularly are still going strong. The only thing that stops them working is getting stolen! Wish they'd steal the 441's!
  9. Pretty smart solution can't see a problem myself. That's a pretty long Knut set-up the shorter it is the less sit back you will have and generally more reliable grab, I tend to fluctuate at the moment mine is as long as yours but with the cord I use it occasionally needs a conscious setting to make it grab not ideal! I like it though because it always breaks easy.
  10. You calling me old:biggrin: seriously though there are the old hands those that have that which can only be gained from years on the job it's an important qaulity. The fastest climbers I know are 40 plus they have the instinct and ability to make climbing look easy.
  11. The hitch climber is cool? I thought it was dated and obsolete!
  12. That all seems arse about face to me. I get paid managers rate to climb and I'm not even that good plenty of climbers far better than me. When I move to managerial position I expect to get paid less than I do now as a climber, this seems fair to me as the production climbers are making the profit.
  13. Looks safe enough to me, try though to move away from hauling your ass up its tough going.
  14. I hard retrieve my pulley saver I prefer the steel ART link pulley for this not the cocoon. Although I do now have a cocoon.... Steel link is more robust though and cheap enough I replaced mine approximately every 2-3 years. Oh and get a hitch climber and a knot or dare I say it a Rrrr Rrrrr Ropewench, more versatile than a Spiderjack, although the SJ is nice to.
  15. I prefer Velcro top and bottom, I like my carbons very comfy, but I will be replacing them with the Ali ones remember at least with the Ali ones you can adjust them.
  16. One of the better looking fakes, squinting through my eyelashes I'd almost be convinced.
  17. I am disappointed you didn't rise to that sooner:sneaky2: opinions are always going to be strong I always try to keep an open impartial mindset, still doesn't mean if someone came to work with me and had a Protos that I wouldn't rip them. Having not been on Arbtalk for a while I just felt like joking with you. I like the Vent for reason I stated earlier its simple it works you can use multiple visor and ear muff configs.
  18. I've done a few emergency jobs over the years and its fifty fifty, some caused by the weather others on fine days, in most cases there was a noticae cause which could of been identified by an inspection. Even the big storms in the late 80's early 90's have left there mark leaving trees liable to collapse/failure still very sad news.

    Heights

The best climbers I know are in their 40's, by the time I am 40 I might actually be good. It's natural to be scared of heights particularly to start with you just get used to it over time.
  20. It's nothing special and doesn't warrant it's extra cost especially if it does not offer sufficient protection against chippers meaning I have to buy a second helmet for chipper use. I look for utilitarian kit that works and is reliable, personally I wouldn't work with anyone who uses a Protos helmet as they are prima Donna's who doesn't believe in feeding the chipper.

    gecko spikes

I have the carbon ones for the last 6 years very comfy, I will be replacing the them with the Ali ones though, full Velcro as I find the Velcro bottom strap more comfortable than the leather buckle strap and allows you to adjust where your foot is placed.
  22. What model Vent did you have? I've had the Kask all variations of the vent and tried a Protos I didn't find it any better than a vent, the latest version of the vent is spot on for me and is a great industrial design simple easy to maintain and does its job.
  23. It'll work but this is not what revolvers are good at or really designed for they make poor pulleys which will give better performance.
  24. Through the bottom hole yes, but why?
  25. No I imagine they will be the same, at the moment it's hard to gauge as reviews are so conflicting. If your hard on your kit then owning a 201t could be costly, personally I've had my 201t 5 months and its been a fine reliable saw. but I'll reserve proper judgement until I've had it 2 years, I'll let you know then.
