  1. Treework is also different in Japan, I find it odd that across the pond it is perfectly acceptable to cut down a large beautiful tree to make way for a house extension. I am like Steve, I would rather fell and replant, but hey, such is life. Some of the oldest Oak trees in this country are former Pollard's.
  2. Nice to see a shot of Guy in a tree, good stuff Blinky.
  3. It's not unusual Steve.
  4. Horrible picture quality, this vid I put on the video forum a while back.
  5. A letter box cut is boring away the center of the hinge from the direction of the front/felling cut. It has different names however, depending on world location, I was taught that it is a bore cut.
  6. My usual Thursday guy canceled late last night, so I gave my mate Dan a call, "Yeah come in mate, we are putting up bird and bat boxes in the park" Sweet, better than the planned Leylandii bashing I would have been doing.
  7. This was posted on the Treehouse a while ago. How to handle a telemarketer. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=3a6_1193794532
  8. Now ain't that the truth, what a place.
  9. I power through like Ed or cut a little step below where the main cut is going to go, or sometimes even cut a little notch to give the chunk somewhere to go rather than against it's self. I nearly always use a small twig or piece of bark to keep the cut open depending on the tree, if I could be bothered I would use a wedge like MB but somehow always leave it in my bag. I can't remember the last time I blocked down anything really massive. (No jokes please).
  10. Oh dear, I work with non climbing groundsman sometimes, if anything serious happened to me in a tree I doubt whether even my fellow climbers could rescue me quickly enough.
  11. Reg thanks, coming from you is high praise indeed, your video is fantastic.
  12. http://s234.photobucket.com/albums/ee56/highscale/?action=view&current=SV_A0033.flv You may think that you see some one handed top handled saw use, let me assure you that you are mistaken, your eyes are not what they once were.
  13. I didn't take a chance, I just stomped it, my Aussie groundy nearly cried.
  14. Huntsmans don't bite but they scared the crap out of me when they first jumped out on me in Oz.
  15. Cutting. Have some.
  16. Sorry no sound on this vid and yes I did touch the wall.
  17. How they can be circumvented by large company's with deep pockets?
  18. Thanks Peter, clearer now.
  19. I think that the Meetings With Remarkable Trees program on the BBC has done some real good for our industry, a fly on the wall documentary type program would be ideal.
  20. Tom I think that showing what our job is all about on mainstream media is a good way to encourage minority participation in the industry. I think the majority of the population has no clue what so ever about what our job entails, exposure will create new interest from new people. Maybe?
  21. Peter, what do you mean by side dees are impossible to reverse?
  22. Sweating like a blind lesbian in a fish factory.
  23. Face like a bucket of smashed crabs.
  24. Looks like you would have to cut off the original bridge to replace, it does look very nice, bugger, more choices!
  25. Nice shot Drew, excellent stuff, monster tree.
