  1. Ok cat amongst the pigeons time. Is this airspading really all its cracked up to be, or is it a case of the Emporers new clothes? I can do the spiel for clients on most things, but this is one job I struggle to sell. I think a lot of the reason is they can see a trees branches, leaves, deadwood, birds nests and seeds, they cant see subterranean, so it doesnt matter to them, and any expense is deemed a waste of money, unless of course the planning guys insist on it in planning report. This in turn, IMO, breeds resentment from the idiot fraternity on sites as Paul found out. Unfortunately this attitude isnt just found in the knuckle dragging Neanderthals level, but all the way to the top of the developement team. trees are still very much seen as a nuisance to the developer.
  2. I think Tony has decided to go to a bigger and better place to air his views, as we "dont get it". He is, of course, more than welcome back at any time if he wishes to answer anything posted here, which Im sure he will in due course. He probably just needed a lie down....in a dark room.
  3. My 026 is still on its original plug, air filter, had a fuel filter once, i do clean my saws religiously when in work, which helps, and i change sprockets and chains as and when they are due, cant stand the thought of a sprocket breaking down on site and having to change it in the rain and the mud. Just do the service items now, ready for your load of wood, it should be fine til the end, clean air filter daily, sharpen as and when it needs it, clean saw at the end of the day. Done:thumbup:
  4. I dont see the issue here, so a couple of ignorant site workers dont give a flying fig about the trees and told you the truth according to them. Of course, in their tiny minds they are right, they read the Star or the Sport, the effing trees are an effing nuisance and quite rightly should be felled, in fact most of the time they would have pushed them over with a digger before anyone saw them, but Planning probably got in the way and stuck their noses in. So now they have some namby pamby Arboric....ambulanceman... Tree hugger blowing air around them and slowing them down. Paul, it really doesnt matter what they do and think, have some wine and chill out, another day tomorrow
  5. Maybe if more trees were buried they wouldnt have become extinct? This is the trouble with mankind, always felling and burning everything
  6. I thought the little green men were real
  7. Yes of course that would be my intention, i would never consider burning it up so little children couldnt fall off the pile and hurt themselves....ever.
  8. how many people in the UK are killed in a given year by a dead tree??? IIRC all instances of injury/death by dead trees are where the drivers of vehicles have lost control and left the road hitting them at speed, not by them falling and hitting anyone. I dont think even the HSE deem them dangerous in their statistics. BUT Id fell it anyway, handy bit of wood there
  9. Ta daaaa, problem solved. Went to the cycle shop and the old boy had some old fashioned fixing glue, in a large tin with a brush to apply it, made by Weldtite, and strips of patching stuff, cut to size. This was the stuff I used to use, one-touch and theyre fixed brilliant and fast.
  10. what has happened to the quality of puncture patches these days, i used to whack those little blighters on in seconds, air up and away we go. Nowadays they just seem to be ike everything else, low grade rubbish! I got me a new kit out of cycle shop in town yesterday, just in case, and went out this am and managed to pick up a leak. Just used 3 patches, they just drop off, is it the glue, or the patches, or both? I dont recall these problems in times gone by.
  11. He was more than a stones throw away
  12. i made one one out of yew once, it was ok but it was a sod to find if i put it on the ground!! No reason why you cant make your own wedges, but tbh for the cost, better things to do with my time!
  13. Woodley, i was racking my pea sized brain trying to think of his surname, cheers Felix
  14. Yeah I wanted to talk to Frank
  15. Yeah Steve is a great bloke, and very good with an axe.
  16. [quote name=Rupe;678801 They are stealing the man hole covers and powerlines!! Something needs to be donw' date=' and "no cash" scrap yards is a good way forward but not if it doesnt apply to the very people that it needs to apply to.[/quote] Allegedly, Rupe, allegedly! Sorry, am bored and a tad argumentative today! Need a life aarrrrgh!
  17. I know this interview is over and done now, but the thread is applicable to others, so.... Remember what you are there for, its to sell a product...you! So make that product as marketable as possible, put it in a smart package, make it look clean and fresh but practical. if you look good you'll feel good, if you feel good, you'll be more confident in your product, if youre confident in your product it will sell easily. Congratulations, you have just got the job, when can you start?
  18. I dont believe there is any law that states any of us must have a bank account? AFter all, cash and stamps are the only legal tender is this country. Any of us can refuse a cheque as payment, especially now as the cheques are no longer supported by the bank cards. With older people more confused by technology, not being able to get to grips with online banking, or not trusting it, cash is and will always be king. Like it or not, the travelling fraternity seem to got it right, they are the winners, we can only moan about it.
  19. Sorry to read this Kev, those rascally vagabonds require serious apprehending swinny, you are right, if you live in a mobile dwelling, of no Permanent address, chances are you wont have a bank account so they are required to pay cash in those circumstances. This is protect their rights. I was told this by a senior Police officer, who is on a committee to deal with just this situation, and his frustration was obvious.
  20. Tony, Discussion is a two way thing, with differing opinions pushing things forward. As soon as that is stifled, things stagnate. You may not like your "authority" to be challenged, or your viewpoint criticised but that is the nature of the beast. There is plenty of room for everyone on this site, from all aspects of tree work and with many differing opinions, and the ebb and flow of discussion is what has made this site such a success. I work in pretty much the same way, I discuss things on site, sometimes strongly disagree with a colleague over an issue, but this leads to a better outcome nine times out of ten, and we all go home happy, i dont ever recall anyone ever grabbing their ball and not playing any more as a result. But thats your prerogative.
  21. Brilliant show, i think maybe the best yet. A far bigger range of "weird" and "wonderful" stalls, trades and people. He weather was favourable yesterday, which helps any event. I too looked at the Gransfors, didnt have the double bit though!
  22. this thread has to be one of the most cringe-worthy and embarrassing Ive read on this site since its conception. Im astounded by some of the postings in here, from senior members in particular whove been around here for a while now.
