I have used a few splitters and i think the screw splitters are the best by far.

One of the main things which has been mentioned is not having to wait for the a ram to return or split the wood.

Once you have your rings stacked up around the splitter one man alone can split a lot of wood.

Are the Hycrack screw splitters still made as I was under the impression they did not comply with health and safety issues?

Although you had to watch your fingers with them they were a very good splitter for very knotty wood . Bastard thieves stole mine which had ,had very little use.
