I like the idea of the screw splitter and grapple being all in one, only thing is if you wanted to use the grapple on its own can the screw cone be taken off otherwise it will be in the way for picking up big ish logs

Would be nice to be able to have a single grab that you could handle quality timber and then add screw when dealing with rougher material, presume you can't get the pressure to use one on a forwarding trailer?

Am guessing but....

 

If the set up is the same as post augers I've used in the past, the screw should just be able to be removed by a single (shear?) bolt through the top of the shaft???

Bought a second hand Hycrack this year. My 7.5tonne vertical Handy would never have got through the 52cm Scott's pine rings. Very fast as no waiting for return. Bloody dangerous though. Good for knotty wood.

I have used a few splitters and i think the screw splitters are the best by far.

One of the main things which has been mentioned is not having to wait for the a ram to return or split the wood.

Once you have your rings stacked up around the splitter one man alone can split a lot of wood.

Are the Hycrack screw splitters still made as I was under the impression they did not comply with health and safety issues?

Although you had to watch your fingers with them they were a very good splitter for very knotty wood . Bastard thieves stole mine which had ,had very little use.

Probably, after I just watched a video of one.....

 

A constant 'exposed' moving part....

 

Wouldn't like to slip and fall onto that.....
