Lumber Supports etc???

Are back / lumber supports worth it??

Just asking, as a couple of weeks ago, on lifting a lump of wood off the floor no bigger than you boots, something I my elbow went 'ping'!!

It stopped me dead in my tracks, lost the feeling in my hand for a few minutes and so had to stop for half an hour....

I've since started to wear one of those elasticated arm supports to help ease the continued pain / recovery, but I'm now thinking 'prevention' now we're back on the logs over the winter....

Are lumber supports worth it - help in any way..??

As a avid crossfiter I've learnt the importance of a decent warm up before a workout. If you think about it there's a lot of similarities between manual labour and a work out. What I'm saying is you could try warming up before starting a session on the processor/splitter.

Supports seem to help a lot of lads in the gym, I'm sure they would help at work, the problem is would they get in the way? Would they slip out of place?

Even if they don't do any actual supporting they will keep your joint and muscle warm.

I suffer from a lot of lower back pain, did some reading up on lumber supports, seems they are of no use, Two things will help though, some basic back exercises and good sleeping position, first off don't sleep on your back, if I fall into a heavy sleep and roll onto my back i'm buggered until about 11.00am, if I sleep on my side then i'm only sore for half an hour after waking. Do some basic back exercises in the morning and you'll be ready for anything the day throws at you, plenty of info online about back exercises for working men (still looks like yoga for slobs though)

They will make you feel better while wearing it but long term your keepin the weakness that there from strengthening, bit of gentle weight lifting or stretching excercises will help far more [emoji106]

My dads physio says the same. If you can manage without, do it. You'll be stronger in the long term as long as you stretch properly. You become dependant on them otherwise.

Have you got a decent firm mattress?

I used to have a lot of problems with my back. Changed my mattress, problem solved overnight (literally).

Obviously this won't be the answer for everyone but I'm surprised that sleeping on your back causes so much grief.

Cheers for the info.... :thumbup1:

Had my suspicions about them not really helpful, but thought of asking here as everyone here will do some kind of 'prolonged heavy lifting'....

And I guess the mattress maybe due for changing if you're saying that could be causing one of the 'problems'....
