Do you get paid for lunch?

I think lunch breaks are generally unpaid in most employment contracts. I.e. 9-5 would be 7 hours of paid work.

Think the law is 15mins paid break for every 4 hours worked. So if you do 9 to 5 you are entitled to 15 minster break paid if you work 8.45 till 5 you are entitled to 30 mins.

This looks right. We get 2 x 15min breaks paid and unpaid lunch(30 min)

Looking at the government website the only legal requirement is a break of 20minutes if it's over a 6 hour day. It doesn't have to be paid for.

 

Not that that has much bearing on those of us who are self-employed.

^^ none of this is relevant as he self employed and working as a contractor. so do as you wish Woodworks. I'm a contract climber and I charge hourly rate with min. 6 hour charge... I never deduct for lunch. Dont normally take that long to be honest.

Think I will continue as before. Normally knock an hour off for the day but in reality probably only stop for 40mins with a couple of short stops for food and drink morning and afternoon and 25 mins for lunch and even then I am changing chains and checking the machine over. Customers seem happy and I earn enough but it's been an interesting thread
