What are the dangers of using SRT?

In a lot of ways srt is safer due to the ease & varied ways you can multi anchor & don't have to worry about a running line ... All the other issues with unseen high anchors etc are things that no matter what systems your on you shouldn't be risking your life on a dodgy branch !!!

Because its the first major advancement in our rope techniques in ages,I think that some inexperianced climbers buy too much gear without the basic understanding of the job.

 

 

 

This can mean they used advanced techniques which over complecate transitioning from ascent to work rig.

 

 

 

The more stuff you have,the more stuff you have to go wrong with.

 

 

I totally agree Mike and would add that one can never have too much gear!

That way, one can become so confused and overwhelmed by the choice of gear and techniques before them that it becomes too iffy to attempt a job. At this point one tells the trainee or freelancer to get to it whilst one chats up the attractive client.

I use to the say for DdRT until i got a lockjack... roll on the Akimbo! But the point about forces and such is very valid - though to be fair I now have a lot more respect for the strength in trees - though side pull is a big one - but again that can be sorted by using the right kind of redirects.

Got a lockjack too for drt, so not adverse to hardware dependant systems. Not a fan in srt due to the nature of our work and potential forces involved. Not an expert opinion by any means, just my observations over time.

Interested in the akimbo and it's approved properties in comparison to the bulldog bone.. Interesting times.

Surely Ddrt and srt load the anchor point the same amount? As in both instances the load is secured at each side of the anchor therefore subjecting the anchor to double the load this only being reduced by the angles each side of the rope intersects the anchor. Similar to when deciding where to place a rigging anchor? Or am I missing something?
