About the only option going:thumbup1:

So true...

Our Agronomist says you can use every chemical on the market 'promising' it can deal with mares tail, but let you down.

Only way is to dig it out.

But dig deep. REALLY DEEP!!!!! To make sure you get rid of the finest of roots...

When I repair land drains across fields I can go down around 2 ft looking for pipes and the roots of mairs tail are still not visible. you can spray it with glyphosate with a wetting agent and think you.ve got it, but up it comes again next year, funnily enough it does not seem to spread to much.

Old guy on an allotment once told me to crush the plant underfoot to break the waxy coating then apply a mix of white vinegar and lawn sand to trick the plant into releasing its nitrogen store. A couple of applications and important crushing under foot and it worked. I did add glysophate to the mix and for 12 months the bugger was gone. But....then slowly it started to reappear so I simply use a patio weeding knife to excavate the new shoots at root.

A primative plant like bracken. Weakens by crushing and bleeding. Getting weaker. But you have to keep doing it. I've seen it glyphosphated and only dies off where the tractor wheels ran. Same happens if you drive a tractor over it.

A plastic mulch over a few seasons should be tough on it.

In the quarry I've seen its roots go through many metres of sand heap.
