Just wondering if any knows what the legal minimum for new construction of pedestrian pavements/footpath (public).

I understand that people say the min width is for mobility scooters but Im trying to find where its actually states it.

I see many mobility scooters, joggers and walking just hog the road if they think the pavement isn't good enough. But I don't know of the regs.

As far as I'm aware there is no legal width, ideally 2m x2 wheelchairs passing by and heavy foot traffic. But this is not always possible.

I personally have done 1.5m , so a wheelchair and person can pass. I have seen 1m paths but that's the least like over bridges, small lanes, low foot fall.

These sizes are what I call clear width, so no obstacles.

In traffic management terms the absolute minimum width you can restrict a pavement to is 1m (by temp signs or barriers etc). Maybe this means min pavement winch is the same?

I've been told a few different figures from 0.8 to 1.2m.

I have tried to find this but no luck yet.

It's more for when new pavements are built around existing trees.

Recently a hoard of " ramblers " with sticks and maps came walking up the center of our road . I stopped and asked them if they would like me to drive on the pavement ? ...Blank stares ...
