Thinning a Holly tree

yep heard all the old wives tales, which I couldn't really give a toss about

 

It came true for a friend of mine , he thinned a holly tree and died. That I do know because I went to his funeral recently, he was 92.

The climbing and pruning of it wouldn't put me off. I quite like the scratchiness of it (but I am a bit weird that way). I just cannot see the point. You will have it all to do again in a couple of years and it will be full of upright shoots arising from your pruning cuts.

What is your client trying to achieve with this management?

I too would be interested in seeing the before and after pictures with a followup in 2-3 years time.

Well at least you are honest. I would say grab it with both hands as you will be able to do it again and again on a repeat basis.

 

I looks pretty leggy so shouldn't be too scratchy at all!
