While we're on the whole landy theme...

Does anyone know if there's a decent straight 6 diesel engine that is a fairly straight forward swap to go into a defender? Like the idea of the old 3.2 patrol engine but you try and find one now!

For motivation just have a listen to this bad boy

I'm still in the process of very slowly rebuilding my old 110 and have changed my mind about engines at least twice so far - was going to V8 it (then bought a V8 disco instead), then decided to 200tdi it but trying to find a decent 200 engine now is getting a bit harder as their all either shagged or have found their way into the older landies. GMC v8 diesel would have been nice but would eat gearboxes.

There's no front end or bulkhead on it at the mo so making something fit isn't going to be too much of a problem.

The guy that does my hgv inspections has an old toyota pickup with a 4.2 straight 6 engine, got it off ebay for £1800, liked it so much he bought 2 more, one running and one scrapper as spares. No idea if it would fit your landy but its a lovely engine, you can pull a house with it.

Why not go with a cummins like in the video? They were fitted into thousands of DAF roadrunners and 45's. Superb engine, will do a milllion K's without breaking a sweat, and a good one can be had for £500. try to get the 150 turbo. I've pulled 18 tonnes gross with one, handles no problem.

Otherwise, try a Mercedes OM366 as fitted to Vario's and atego's up to 13 tonne gross.
