however, even though the Our World In Data checks out - agreeing with johnsond's search screenshot figure of 50.8% UK electricity from renewables (in that year) BOTH sources are wrong. Why? Because they include biomass in renewables. What a con that is. Can't see how we get 7% credit to our renewables target for shipping in wood and burning it. Burning trees is an impatient way of burning oil - both release carbon dioxide to form an insulating layer in the upper atmosphere.

  • Carbon Payback Period:
It takes a long time for new trees to grow and reabsorb the carbon emitted from burning older trees. This means that burning biomass can contribute to warming for decades or even centuries before a "payback" occurs.

Yeah, large-scale Biomass is BS. We're all agreed. "Impatient coal burning" - nice! Especially using fuel that's been shipped in from the other side of the world to be burnt. Makes more sense to bury local stuff in the ground, as silly as that sounds.

Biomass is just a way for dumb politicians to appear to be doing something, without actually doing anything to upset the apple cart.

The whole renewables game is a cash cow for predominantly foreign based companies, I agree with the biomass comment, I’ve mentioned it on more than one occasion.

It undoubtedly is a cash cow for some foreign based companies, (because we've allowed them to take advantage), but it also serves a critical purpose. How else is the world going to reduce CO2 emissions without substituting renewable for fossil fuel energy sources?

Two now, it would seem condescending behaviour doesn’t go down too well with those that have actually suffered at the hands of these gangs.
Good enough for the Guardian it’s good enough for you. Facts lad.
