Love Thy Neighbour was bad, really bad, as kids we lapped it up and used the terms in the playground because it was on the telly.

I watched a bit and showed it to my groundy who is 35 and is no bleeding heart liberal to say the least, we both winced, a real low point of TV history.

I’m a bit young for love thy neighbour being only 32 and that but now you have thrown a bone your going to have to post a clip.

A lot of TV and comedy was the same then. Most of us have evolved since then, thankfully. Unfortunately, some still think it's clever to compare black people to primates.

Sounds more like a problem of preconception on your part....

I'd just as readily call a white person a baboon as a black person.  The significant difference being the black person would more likely claim it to be racism rather than a reflection of the behaviour that led to the association!

I call our little one a cheeky monkey, thank **** she's not black I'd have the old bill, the social and all manner of PC crusaders beating a path to the door.

Yes it’s brutal this day in age, thanks for the clips guys but not my humour even for the year/s it was out.

Cheers, porridge and only fools however now they are timeless.

Have to admit though I only watched the 1st Star Wars film the other night I’m on a mission to watch them all to see what all the fuss is about, I know I know where have I been . . .

Or a problem of gross insensitivity on yours. It's so plainly inflammatory that I am surprised we are even having this conversation. While our opinions frequently differ, I thought better of you.

It was 'of it's time.'  It's not of 'today's time.'

The question posed was, yes, we have changed immensely in a relatively short time in what is deemed to be 'acceptable' from 40ish years ago to today, has the change in what is considered 'acceptable' resulted in a measurable change in the actual levels of real or perceived separation / discrimination / disadvantage of distinct cultural / ethnic groups?
