Tree Risk - Putting it into persepective

I love the fact that about 55 cases of A&E cases a year were attributable to being struck by trees, whereas 2200 per year relating to Wheelie bins (taken from Common Sense Risk Management of Trees). You don't see many wheelie bins needlessly destroyed as someone has over-evaluated the risk they pose and yet this happens with trees all the time.

Of the 55 people a year struck by trees how many of those were felling / working on them ?? ( slightly joking ) .... but it does amaze me really when you consider how much the potential is , especially the number of roadside trees I see that have defects , dead etc etc . but as you say incidents are rare ( thankfully ) but we have become such a ridiculously risk averse society that are scared in to insuring against every thing through fear of being sued !!! and insurers will often only offer insurance if the risk is removed ...
