Expert opinion I think states that braking or decelerating is the opposite of what you need to do; rather you should gently accelerate out of the snaking.

 

I had this with a sizeable caravan years ago and putting my foot down did indeed rectify the issue. Once the dramatics are over you can decelerate again.

 

Edit: high power if choosing to accelerate otherwise no brakes, just gear down on her.

This happened to me first time I took my caravan out behind my estate car. My mate is sat next to me an it started snaking hard ...... like over both sides of white line ! I tryed foot off gas ..then gently braked -  made it worse ..then floored it - which saved us ! Apperently I was talking myself thru everything that was happening and checking response - He just sat there after , staring at me ' well you worked that one out ! ' K

I've no idea....comes standard on army trucks put out to pasture to civilians.......one to look up.  

 

Unless otherwise stated I couldn't see why they wouldn't be as the army drive with these on public roads and they're not removed when disposal comes around?

Most army vehicle wont be type aproved so dont need type aproved towbars.

If it's not approved they should put it up against standard hitch, they are over engineered just look at a sankey wide track trailer rated at 1 ton and a domestic 1 ton trailer.

Yes I know they are tough as old boots. I used to use them.

 

Often the best tool for the job is not aproved for the job.

 

PS most dont now that they should be locked when on the road. Which was the reason they were sugested to be used as they allow rotation. Road use must not rotate.

No but it is implied. Anyone going to ask?  I had one on my 101 but apart from pulling lorries out of sites it wasn't used.

Cant even see it implied.

 

Yes it is in addition to CE marking. I think you can sell it as there are some vehicles that can use it legally. If however I asked for it to fit a post 98 M1 class car then they would be in breach if they supplied it & I would be in breach if I used it.

 

Needs an EU number to show compliance with european type approval 94/20/ec

 

 

European type approval 94/20/EC

In the U.K, with effect from 1st August 1998 all Passenger Carrying Vehicles up to 3500kgs Gross Vehicle Weight (M1 Vehicles) can only be fitted with European Type Approved towbars if the vehicle has received European Whole Vehicle Type Approval.

However in other EU countries this extends to commercial vehicles, so if you buy a towbar and

Non M1 vehicles, light commercial vehicles and private imports from outside the EEC do not need Approved Towbars; however, most car and some Light Commercial Vehicles such as vans commonly use the Type Approved Towbar.

 

However now comercial vehicles & motorcaravans (campers & motor homes etc) do need type aproval too.
