The fin thing is the least likely, but they're made of cheese so they can crack off and disappear, you would notice a lot more vibration anyway.

 

Huck is right in what he says about the margin for error on these machines the anvil rounds off quickly and greener, stringy material doesn't get chopped it passes past the blades and can clog up the chute.

 

Get some pics up of the anvil, blades and the bits Bob described and you'll get some definitive answers.

Thanks for the advice I have been very happy with its performance so far it's just the conifers that are the head ache. Other than that it takes a quite a while to fire it up but once running it's fine. Would it be worth taking it to spectrum and getting a full service done in your opinion?

IMO, yes, they appear to be a very sound bunch, I've not had a lot of dealings with them, but the dealings I have had were excellent!!! a very refreshing change to the other lot (named after a colour and a fruit:sneaky2: )

Could be a few things but my first call would be crap in the roller box stopping the top roller dropping and crushing the wood to get grip and/Or lack of grease to the sliders in the roller box
