I can't get this heavier thing! So if a saw weighs 2kg more than another so what?! Yeah, it will tire you more for the first week or two. But then you'll be stronger and will cope. I can understand cutting the labels out of your pants if your climbing Everest; you know life and death, agregation of small factors (Dave Brailsford - TDF) and all that. But tree work! Get a grip; are you men or mice?!

 

Well exactly! I'd rather it work every time I want it to, hence the 620sx and a spud dr'd 460 are the two saws which live in my truck. It's only heavy when it's not in the timber! However when you're on spikes trying to start a felling cut with a 66 or 88 with a big old bar then weight matters a lot. The rest of the time who bloody cares!

So is it best to use something like a 660 or 395 for everything everyday then ?

 

I would prefer to use something lighter, more powerful with better ergonomics and replace it more often.

Stihl battery climbing saw weighs almost 1 Kg more than a Stihl 150 and everyone is loving them! ( I'd rather buy the Echo 2510 than either of those though and get it delivered straight to Spud before we put it into commission)

The ground saws seem heavy in comparison to the compatition.

 

You mean ground saW? 501SX is the second generation 50cc saw that is lighter than competition. 620SX should also be compared to Husky 562 not 560 (oil/fuel tank sizes prove that). The ~150g weight difference doesn't look that big then, especially considering higher torque below 9000rpm which also comes from longer piston stroke.
