Hows your work load?

Never had that because never worked like that! If I'm booking stuff for within a week of looking at the job ill give a day there and then as can be reasonable certain of weather, what's already booked in etc if they give the go ahead. Two weeks onwards I say which week we'll aim for and ask if any days that week are good or bad to aim for and make a note and call a few days before I've got a spot or when have another job in the area that makes a day up if it's a small job

Makes sense but do you not find that things can get a tad hectic. Say you have a load of work piling up. If it's booked in then you know that jobs there and coming up, if weather that day is too bad you can phone up and explain rebook, then fill the day with a few little (weather not a problem) jobs.

I'd think it would work the opposite? If you've got a big tree to work on and it's a full day and the weather isn't up for it you'd need to move that job back to a clear spot that could be a few weeks? And equally find another job or two to move forwards to that day? Sounds like more stress! Personally I really hate changing jobs on customers, it's the hardest phone call I make as feel like letting them down, so much prefer to be as certain as I can to do something when I say I can

Works with jobs that go over as well, this Friday ill have to go back to a job I did last Friday as part of it was cutting a limb back that's over an outbuilding, I felt was too gusty but would have had to do it if was already booked in all of this week coming. Flexibility is key for me

It's an interesting discussion, personally I like to set a date as soon as I get a yes, either on the visit if I get an immediate go ahead, or on the confirming phone call.

I think I do this because it keeps the conversations to a minimum. Plus it's easier to organise things if it's already in the diary.

The other way has its merits certainly.

I would never want to go back to having my diary full of work booked in for specific dates, feel to tying for my liking.

Some times I feel in the mood for a certain kind of work or maybe just feel like a day off.

Also if a top client rings I can go straight away.

Interesting thread.

I've never considered having this approach to confirmed work. I couldn't see it working for us as domestic customers generally like to be given a date. Certainly we do have to shuffle stuff around from time to time. Currently booked up into June right now.

Same here when asked when I can do it I say lead in time of a fortnight, if it's an easy job and can fit it in quicker I will and if it's more involved and requires working round availability of labour/materials or weather I can do that too.
