Or the money! I google v8 defender and quite a few come up so sounds feasible. What v8 are you looking at? The 4.4 v8 N62 by BMW seems to be available quite frequently. 286-350hp....

 

Anything that will fit reasonably easily and doesn't get cracked heads.

How about the GMC V8 diesel conversion ? range rovers often come up on the bay with this conversion last one only made £1100

 

Think there can be problems associated with this conversion as it can chew gearboxs and axles apparently.

There was a bobtail Range Rover classic over our 4x4 club for years and it never eat any gearboxes or axels and it was being used pritty hard, the power of the thing was amazing but there's also a guy who's got a bobtail Range Rover with full 80 series running gear it's not a V8 it's the 4.2 straght six

My landcruiser was petrol 4.7 V8 in my opinion it pisses over any Landrover / Range Rover but Putting a landcruiser running gear in wont be cheep
