Stump Grinding - South Bucks (lots of it)

Hi, we moved to a new house (for us) last summer which has a large garden which for the last nine months we have gradually been clearing. Recently had an arborist in to cut down the last of the trees that needed removing (hedge line that had got out of control).

 

We have probably a solid weeks work...maybe more...stump grinding that need30-40 tree stumps plus stumps from woody shrubs.

 

We've had a quote from current arborist which seems very expensive so very happy to use someone else.

 

If nobody interested in quoting I'd be interested to know what people think is a fair rate for 5 days work. One person and a stump grinder.

But those big machines are amazing.. I remember when Mr Vartan got his 95hp Rayco, we put the clock on it and it did a 3' oak stump in around 4 minutes.

 

Days work 600 ish. no? maybe a bit more now...

I don't understand the rationale for charging me to hire the equipment though....I mean that's like having your cake and eating it as a contractor. No capital outlay/depreciation/maintenance on the equipment and charge the client for the hire when you need it?

 

Very happily pay for a bigger machine if it does it quicker!

I did but from what I have read the pedestrian machines are hard work to use and I am guessing I'd need several days hire for such a machine!

 

I might be able to save money BUT I have two young kids and I'd have to do it over a few weekends as I am traveling every other week for work at the moment so time is precious etc

 

That and I have 6 or 7 tons of logs to worry about splitting !

If I were involved in this, I would place 5-6 hours on the job (including a good tidy) with a Bandit 2550. A larger machine would be nice but not absolutely necessary. As for cost, this is largely derived by how much an individual believes they are worth. A day rate, of one day, would be expected.

IMO, from the pic's £4000 is ridiculous!!!

 

But then £600 is far to cheap.

 

£1000 to £1500 should see the job done IMO, but that is from pic's so I could be wrong.

I do my stumps with a 14 ton tracked digger dig them out then Bury stumps 3 fact down upside down and make good.the only problems would be the ones by the wall. But a long day would do the easy ones at £45 an hour.maybe hire in a wee grinder to do stumps by wall.well under a 1000 though and no chips.also good for surface roots as whole stump is removed as well as a team tap root.depth to be buried at easilly changed.if burying not an option stumps can be left in piles and removed with tractor and trailer still change from a grand

Indeed. I knew nothing about pricing stump grinding til yesterday but even I could smell the money!
