Hi I know this is probably down to preference but I'm about to buy a top handle saw possibly a Sthil 201t. The problem is I keep hearing bad things about the reliability of the Sthil, which leaves me the only other option a husky top handle has any one got any thoughts on this matter. Thanks in advance.

Hi the husky 540xp is ace, costs funny enough£540 very powerful saw, just got to be carefull not to knock it to hard not the most strongest saw wouldn't go near a 201t all my mates have them, never out of the repair shop hope this helps.

I use both the 540 and the 201. Imo there both balls and I prefer my 200 all day. 14" bars on all saws but I feel the husky is underpowered and suits the 12" bar better but I can't stand 12" bars! When I next need a saw it will be the 201. Best of a bad bunch I think. Mechanically had no problems with any of the saws but I think that husky needs to quit building there saws out of Lego (other toys available lol)

I sold my husky 540 just couldn't get on with it at all, weak Av spring and didn't feel well balanced in the hand, i prefer the ms201 but neither are a patch on my ms200t and I prefer 12" bars on them all

Personally I would not spend money on either the Husky or the stihl, too many people having problems from what I see, I use echo stuff exclusively now apart from my old xp346, and have had no issues whatever.

Nothing at all wrong with the reliability of the 201 in my experience, far better than the 200 was in that respect
