Did a medium oak deadwood and thin this morning. I've been mainly ddrt recently but I used the wrench for this. Lovely. Definitely easier than ddrt with a few decent redirects.

I think watching someone who is good at working a tree SRT, and getting some pointers off them helps a lot.

Dan Curtis talked me through getting right out to some oak tips at Jonesies show a few years back, and it was pretty easy.

The main issue I have with SRT is You can't change your anchor point while in the tree as far as I know (without climbing back to it). A reasonable amount of my work involves doing line of trees where I move from one to another, so I may well come down a tree 50-100m from the one I originally went up! With doubled rope I can just strop in, unclipped and pull main line through.

Sure you can. Various ways of doing that. All of them a bit of a faff though

I've gone through 3-4 trees off the first anchor SRT ,natural redirects and and throw hook make transitioning a breeze and definitely makes drt redundant in that situation for me, in fact last time I did a work climb on a double rope I had to ask for my wrench and ascenders 20 mins in to it.... I absolutely hated SRT work climbing as well for a few years.

How can you retrieve your rope remotely in the tree on srt then, assuming the ground staff have better things to do then run around untying anchor points and passing ropes back up to climbers?

Use a longer rope and use multiple natural redirects.

 

Might take a bit to pull it out but would work.

 

It might sound strange but that is one of the main differences in the two techniques. You climb and work the tree differently with a single line.

Long rope and base anchor set on the first tree, get the groundies to unclip or untie when you reach the third third tree and pull it back through and set another base anchor or as I would prefer a retrievable pinto tie off for the last tree.

I would prefer to use a snake anchor so I'm not relying on other people tying a knot I can't see.
