Update: I'm genuinely hoping to reach that enlightenment stage and post on here how great SRT is. It's not going to be today though

The redirect using a fig8 descender (that colemanjesse mentioned) is great.

It's not a revelation of course but it's a very good way of distributing loads in a safe manner.

I nailed the access bit pretty quickly, but it was a gradual transition to SRT working the tree. Most of my work is takedowns on spikes, although I can run my CT ascender and HAAS with spikes no worries.

I really need to have a proper look at redirects, and I think that's best done on my own time, rather than in front of yawning groundies or frowning people who are paying me money.

Same as you mark , I think some folks have no problems grasping it at all but I never abseiled or used a single line in my life and my whole career had been on a double rope system... It took a while, it's far from perfect in comparison to the flow I had with double ropes but I would not go back.

When I first started srt I was always trying to use the pinto with the wrench because it looks "in line" but honestly the hitch climber is easier, no messing around with where to clip into, it doesn't matter in the slightest if the tether and wrench are angled to the side and bd it's the hitch climber us much slimmer it all sits on a carabiner a lot better. But that is my opinion

Steve,

before you give up consider keeping it as simple as possible in the early days. Like I said before just use it for medium or large spike dismantles with a top tie or pruning jobs where the tree can be climbed with ease like a ladder or big frame. If you try it on something like a big reduction you'll get frustrated.

For a long ascent with base tie off - forget the knee ascender just now. Just use a hand ascender above the wrench and a foot ascender, as you ascend with this setup the tether/hitch self advances up the rope no problem.
