I'll be lighting mine using fatwood. The Corsican pine I had delivered was full of the stuff - only need one bit to light my fire and I love it - tends to spit and send out jets of flame as well as dripping molten flammable liquid onto the logs.

I make them stood up, start with saw bar facing up 45 degrees, butt power head up to log so it doesn't pull over, then maintain power head against stem, even take advantage of bumper spikes.

 

Flat firm ground. Flat level bottom cut, easy and quick.
